Wireless headphone recommendations

Currently torn between :

Ended up getting the XM5, the bose was giving me a headache after wearing them for while (borrowed from a friend) even the Ultras in-store Sony at Sylvia park have a 30 day no questions asked return thing when you sign up so I'll give them a go and return them if I don't like them

Bose: Quietcomfort (Ultras seem nice but cost like $150+ more than these other models)
Sony: WH-1000XM4 or XM5
Sennheiser: Momentum 4

Anyone have or used any of these models and could help me choose?

I have tried them on in store but most store demo models are so thrashed that its really hard to tell which ones are actually comfortable, sound the best etc.

I fly alot so comfort and NC would probably be the most important for me.

I just picked up the Bose QC SC (Softcover) from JB Hifi at lunch time for $299. price matched Noels.
Tried them in store and i enjoyed them over the Sony's XM4 and XM5.

It's tough because headphones are mostly personal preference but mine was the Bose QC (non ultra)

Can also get online from bose and they do a referral sign up bonus thing or student discount thing.

    • Plus you can return them in the first 90 days if you don't like them.

  • Id recomend sony.
I have the xm3 model which is older.

Everytime I see best headphones. Sony is number one usually

  • I was looking at the same headphones recently to replace my old Bose QC35. I ruled out the Sony WH-1000XM5 as I use it for travel and it doesn't fold as compact as the other two.

In the end I went for the Bose QC SC, mainly due to it being on sale at the time.
They are awesome headphones with great noice cancelling. The only problem is when I use it for a phone call or Teams meeting. Everything is super clear to me and all the external noise is blocked out. However, the mic picks up all the external sounds so everyone else on the call hears all the background noise.

    • Yea i think im either going to get the XM5s or the QCs I wish the QC ultra was cheaper in NZ.

I feel the NC maybe better in the XM5s? QCs slightly more comfortable.

Ruled out the Xm4 and the sennheisers.

  • Any Sony would do mx3 or x4 or x5 , Bose if you like their sound stage , I prefer Sony is warmer sounding

  • I have Bose QC 25, 45 and Sony XM4.

If you value NC as paramount, then go Bose - without any doubt. Sound quality Sony's tad better. Comfort also goes to Bose 45.

    • The 45s and the basic QCs are pretty much the same hey?

      • Upgraded just because of the wireless/BT connections. Otherwise pretty much the same.

  • I've had the Momentum 4's for almost 2 years now. It's a bit hard for me to compare to the XMs or the QCs as I've never used those extensively, but objectively: very, very solid pair of headphones. Battery life is amazing (can go way more than a week without charging), I have no complaints at all with the sound quality, and noise cancelling is perfectly satisfactory. Never really get tired of them from a comfort perspective, except maybe after a few hours after use while wearing glasses.

The app… works fine, not the most amazing thing in the world, but then again, I don't have much use for the app features - more of a set and forget thing. Having a USB DAC built into the headphones is convenient, as it allows you to plug a USB-C cable into a computer/phone and use them wired, for better sound quality or while charging. I've had no issues with Bluetooth connectivity, and multipoint works well.

Only real downsides for me would probably be the cosmetic issue that develops with the fabric headband over time (see Reddit), but PB were nice enough to cover that even outside of warranty. Also, keep in mind that they don't fold, and the included carrying case is relatively large.

There seems to be a really good deal at PB, where you get a pair of Accentum buds too? Could be worth considering if you have a use for the buds too.

    • Thanks for your comprehensive review of the M4s. Ive had a few pairs of sennheiser wired headsets in the past and they were amazing. I found the clamp on the M4s bit tight for my head instore and it seemed to have more negative reviews than the others.

I saw that deal with the M4s and the buds theyre gone now i think it was only for the first few days of the pb tech bf sales.
