Dark Sector, the 2008 third-person shooter from Warframe developer Digital Extremes, is now free on Steam for the next 72 hours in celebration of the upcoming free Warframe: 1999 expansion that is set to be released in December 2024.
Dark Sector places you in the shoes of Hayden Tenno, a covert operative who must invade the fictional Eastern European city of Lasria that hides a very dangerous Cold War secret. During his mission, he gets infected with a Technocyte Virus that turns him into a killing machine with powers and a deadly glaive that he must use to save everything.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals.
The games action is cover based shooting like Gears of War or Uncharted, but you also get this glaive that you can throw around like Captain America's shield dismembering people in the process. You unlock an ability that when activated slows down time and zooms in on the glaive as it travels, kind of like the bullet time kills in Sniper Elite. I remember having a lot of fun with this game back in the day.
Quite gory, it was refused classification in Australia because of the gory glaive kills, they ended up with a censored version that thankfully we didn't get here in NZ. I wonder if Australians still get the censored version when they download it?
