I live in the South Island, I set my preferred store to a location in Christchurch, and it said that the game is in stock there. But they want $20 shipping for it! I tried a few other games and same thing, $20 postage. I tried setting the "preferred store" to some other locations but no difference. It used to be around $6.50 I thought, so why are they doing this?
Why is EB Games trying to charge me $20 for shipping for ONE game?

There could be a bigger change with shipping i.e NZ Post.
NZ Post recently changed our business address from standard to non-standard.
This means no more personal packages delivered to work.
It came down to money and the business was like yeah nah for employee personal delivers.
If JB can ship for $4.99, and the Warehouse $6.99, then $20 sure looks like price gouging to me. I'd ring them and ask for an explanation why the shipping price is 300% higher than JB, it could be a mistake in the system or something, and if they say it isn't then tell them they've lost a sale and buy the game from another store or wait for it to show up on Trade Me. JB will price match EB if they have the game in stock, and I think they have an online chat now so you can get the price match online.
EDIT - I just saw your post about your business address, first, try a different delivery address in your town to see if the price of delivery drops significantly, if it does then you could get the parcel sent to that address and then redirect it to a NZ Post collection center near your work or to any address within 75km of the original address for $3 through the NZ Post websites parcel tracking page.
Not sure how it works if your address is RD.
I recently asked EB Games if they could match the PS5 Disc Console at JB Hifi a couple of steps away at Manukau Westgate. They said no and were $100 dollar dearer at that time. The games were pricier too so not sure why they are still in business.
NZ Post were on the news about their price hikes complaining that their price hikes are due to rising costs and letters are hardly being sent any more. This is only going to worsen if they inflate costs as people will reduce their purchases of parcels. They should look at ways of reducing prices to get higher volume if they want to get more people sending. All they are doing right now is crippling businesses and killing their own trade market. It's really not that bad though, currently $4.65 for overnight courier to urban address for dle size bag, $0.20 for the bag itself. It's not much more for bigger size bags.
I find NZ Post are half the cost or less than their competitors most of the time, and are way more reliable with their delivery targets.
Really?
Cause NZ post easily cost twice what Aramax, or up to 3-4x what somewhere like Pass-the-Parcel charges on most packages (and they provide free packaging).
The other two have also never taken 4 days to show up and collect.
The other two have also never taken 4 days to show up and collect.
I had a parcel waiting for Aramex to collect it for almost two weeks last year despite multiple 'nudges' from me.
However, I strongly suspect it is very specific to the time and location - my Aramex drive back then was probably just crap, and there is likely a new one now.
Never had NZ Post or PBT take more than two days to collect, but again, I've probably just been lucky, rather than it indicating that they are just 'better'.
Current DLE pricing:
NZ Post - $4.85 - Overnight
Aramex - $4.55 - 2-4 days
NZ Couriers - $12 - Overnight
Post Haste - $6.22 - Overnight
PTP - $6.80 - Overnight (PTP is Post Haste, but you pay more)Generally as the size increases the difference becomes more pronounced.
Now the issue as someone who has sent many thousands of packages over the years is that NZ Post hits their delivery target 95% of the time. The others all vary, but are generally below 75% (Post Haste closer to 50%). You simply cannot rely on them when you need something asap.
Of course your local experience may differ slightly due to your driver, but I'm speaking to nationwide experience over many years.
Yes a bit odd. $10 North Island, $20 South Island for shipping.
To me that seems to mean everything is shipped from a central (NI) location
Otherwise could it be possible it's calculating shipping costs on their "same day delivery" service by mistake?
Cost to process the order including Pick-n-Pack then shipping cost also I guess. Everything has gone up eh.
