So my 55" TCL TV died the other week. So we're on the lookout for a new TV. My budget is $100-1500. I haven't kept up with TV tech in years. So my question is: what's the best bang for buck that I could get a 65" for and should keep an eye out for?

My Sony died end of November and I've got a Harvey Norman credit waiting for me to use tomorrow. I've been doing a lot of research!
I've settled on the TCL C855. Down to 2k tomorrow. But the TCL C755 is also very good and made my shortlist, it's 1250ish at Harvey Norman. My TCL died so I'm looking for a Sony 😂
My Sony just died aswell after 2 years look like sutff isnt built to last anymore haha
if its died under 5yrs I'd be CGA'ing it, I think TV's are in the 5-10yr range for reasonable life (depending on how premium the tv is, it should last longer)
https://www.consumer.org.nz/articles/appliance-life-expectan…Have a 2008 and 2017 Samsung still going, so if my new one were to die I'd be like yo look at these ones doing better than this new shit
@Huntakillaz: Only thing I like about TCL is they have a 3 year warranty where as Sony only has a 1 year. That's the only thing I don't like about dropping heaps of cash on TVs as they're not guaranteed to last long without crapping out.
@Lifeline: 1 vs 3 year warranty on a TV isn't too important as the CGA will definitely cover you for at least 3 years. Unless the warranty covers things like accidental damage or goes up to 10 years I wouldn't worry about it.
@Lifeline: Warranty terms mean not a lot in nz.
Also there’s a couple of brands who give a different period for warranty cover than they advertise. And if you get a common fault under cga it’s usually straightforward
We got a tcl c835 and the tv itself is nice to look at. My only gripes with it are some quirky software things like:
Quick start up often leads to buggy behaviour
Using optical output for sound you couldnt really swt the tv to output the sound without muting it and having the mute kogo in screen..We fixed the second by upgrading our sound and we tolerate not casting and slow boot up to stop the buggyness. What I'm not sure about is if these are android tv problems or just tcls version of it.
Best bang for your buck?
100% phillips tv from pbtech or even mightyape for value. Both are super cheap and should work for a while.
Phillips ambilight tvs will make you feel a little more premium for a great price. Always great to show off to others aswell.
Ended up with a TCL 65" C755 for $1519. Nice blacks and nice colours. I also got a samsung HW-C450 soundbar and sub priced matched at the warehouse for $269 which sounds great.
I'm happy and sort of glad I went with the cheaper option otherwise I'd be freaking out over any minuscule defects or babying the TV.
You know people rag on soundbars but I really like them for the simplicity and looks. Especially the ones with the wireless subs
This maybe a contender for you:
