PlayStation Store Gift Cards

Hello to the GamerZ,

I have been away from console gaming for some years, my last console was a PS2. I have recently taken up console gaming again on a PS5 disc console. For the first time I have acquired games digitally from the PlayStation store, experiencing the convenience of snapping up specials sometimes available on classic games.

Being a loyal Cheapies, I am keen to learn from veterans clever ways to get their games cheaper. I often see overseas PS store gift cards advertised for somewhat below their values, have seen discounts as steep as 15% (i.e. acquiring $100 USD voucher value for just $85).

I wonder if there are places that sell NZ PS Store gift cards at discounted rates, and the most economic way to get them?

Thank you for your sharing. Happy gaming! 🤘

Aside from doing tricks with VPNs or overseas accounts, the only NZ discount I know of is the 5% off at Mighty Ape for Primate customers.

This can also stack with promo codes they do from time to time, eg the recent (now expired) $10 off $30 code meant you could get a $30 card for $18.50.

    • Thanks for the bit about promo codes on Mighty Ape, haven't factored that one in.

Have been trying to discern if there is advantage over one another between EB games Plus membership and Might Ape Primate membership - both offering seemingly identical 5% discount on PS gift cards purchases.

First - dont buy digital games. You don't own them. Once the game is removed from the server it's gone. Personally I have had multiple paid for PS3 digital games just disappear (many are still for sale - they've just removed my access)

Second - not really. The best way to save on a PS+ sub (which is probably worth it for you given you'll have access to a bunch of games you haven't played) is to go international. I use the Singapore store as it had the best mix of extra free games (when it was 3-4 every month and not the whole catalogue), English language versions (you get both the English and Chinese versions when they are separate), and cost. (Most recently around $120NZD for the highest tier for the the year).

Keep in mind you can't transfer games from one region to another - and having multiple accounts starts to get annoying.

You can also share an account by having one PS as the main registered device, and one as your "travel" device. The main account can share games across accounts logging into that device. The other one has to be logged into that account to play.

I agree with this. Also, if you buy second-hand games on disk, you can play them, then re-sell, often for a similar amount, making your gaming very cheap.

      • I know of EBGames, Trademe and FB Market Place as places with second hand discs traded. Have I missed other ones?

        • We would generally use EB - often I'll just pop in and trawl the tray of second hand disks when I happen to be going past.

    • Thanks for this tip, I have been contemplating if getting an additional US account would be worth it. Will be taking a good look at the Singapore store too.

Just to add - if you go for the SG (or any Asian store) Turgames is the cheapest place to get vouchers. They sell them at face value plus some minor payment fees.
