  • I would recommend buying a new mattress,
Just need to know what you need, firm, soft with plush top etc.
I got something like this. They had them for 800 incl base.

Do you have a good base?.

We bought one and hated it because it doesn't have edges so we felt we were about to roll out of bed all the time lol. I'd recommend the much cheaper foam toppers or a new mattress. We recently bought a near new $7,000 mattress at auction for $500.

    • Which auction?

Mattresses are such a personal thing… it's so hard to give recommendations on. What is bliss for one person is hell for another.

They are also one of the most absurdly expensive things for what they are considering how much they cost to make.

  • Sorry to hijack your question, but has anyone had experience with peace lily latex mattresses? We're looking for something really firm, like a couple steps removed from sleeping on the floor firm. Currently on a 15 year old memory foam type mattress, which doesn't seem to be supporting us any more.

Yes we just bought a super king pure latex peace lily.

Traditionally we prefer firm mattress with pillow top. Weight is 75 / 60kg.

The peace lilly mastress has 3 layers of firmness and is flipable.

We found having the firm side up felt a bit saggy and we didnt like it, we use it with medium side up without a topper.

When you have firm side up, it means the softest layer is at the bottom which i think caused the saggy feeling.

Some mattress you can reorder the individual layers which would be much better. You can't do this with peace lily.

      • Ah that’s disappointing to hear. Do you think you’ll return it? Are you using it on a slat base? Our base is at the maximum slat width listed in their faqs. I wish they made a purely firm mattress, rather than the flippable type.

I’m also looking at the futonz or innature latex mattresses, but they’re about $1000 more for queen size.

        • Keep.

Haven't measured slats but they won't be wide spaced.

          Yes disappointing design.

Could visit showroom if in Auckland?

          • @kiwijunglist: I’m in Waikato, but I might have to visit and try some out. Thanks anyway!

            • @kinetic9: Ask innature to split the difference?

Additionally the mattress felt quite different after 2-4 weeks compared to when we first got it. Not sure if that is the mattress adjusting or us or a bit of both. The manufacturer states it takes 4 weeks i think, but they would say this anyway to reduce returns.

We felt very slightly uncomfortable in our backs on walking in the first week or two and not sure if we were imagining it or not and then after that felt comfortable.

              • @kiwijunglist: Oh that's interesting, nice that they have a 100 day trial. Innature's is only 14 days + they have a shipping fee.

I might actually try their 100 day trial, and I wonder if using it firm side down and pairing it with their firm mattress topper will make it firmer overall?

                • @kinetic9: It probably would but then you are getting a lot closer $ to innature where you can order the mattress the way you want.

I think it makes more sense that the firm layers are on the bottom in decreasing firmness as you get closer to the top, so having a firm layer on top doesn't make sense to me.

                  • @kiwijunglist: Yeah it's a little closer in price, but Innature's shipping price is $240 vs. free for Peace lily.

At least with Peace lily I get around 3 months to try it out and return if I'm not happy. I don't know, I'll think about it for a little while.

  • I bought one last year from Spotlight to go on top of my pretty firm mattress, and very glad with the purchase. But if you have a soft mattress it may not work for you.
