Retro Arcade Game Console $59 (Save $240) + Shipping ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Jaycar

50

I don't know about the original RRP but worth it at this price for the hardware alone.

For copyright reasons it only comes with a handful of games but you can add your own ROMs or download a copy of the SD card from the internet to restore the number of games to 1,600+

This and other interesting things are happening if you look at the comments over at Oz Bargain: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/885912

Yeah been playing around with one. Out of the box it's not worth $59 - it's unusable. The 150 games are crap

With a bit of work it's ok and worth the $59. You can transfer your own games (if you find the right roms) to the microSD card or you can download one of the original 1619 game files (before they chopped it to 150 games) however it's still missing key games like SF2.

There also is a button issue with 6 button fighting games (e.g. Street Fighter 2) but this has been fixed with a manual hex edit and key remapping.

In the past week a lot of work has been done (not by me!) on taking the system apart, rebuilding the games database to include the new games, and expanding it with extra emulators and the like. This all in one week so I expect further developments as time goes on.

To be fair, having more fun playing around with it than actually playing games.

  • great hardware for the price. if you're a DIYer, you can fit a raspberry pi into there for improving the all in one type of retro gaming experience or you can get something like a pico board (or two) and just turn it into a dual arcade stick for use on your PC/consoles.

    • Yep.

You are paying for the hardware (Dual Joysticks) for this.. the rest is worth $2.

Out of stock looks to be, can't order online and none around me for pickup, that's a shame I was excited to get one to play with my daughter… show her the (sorta) arcade experience. :'(

  • Ok after a bit of work I've:

Fixed the 6 button controller issue on Mame
Removed all the NES and GBA games (can restore them easily enough but figured no one cares about these games too much)
Added a ton of mame, CPS1,2,3, neo geo, Megadrive, SNES roms
Updated the games database so the new games are now "built in" instead of "downloaded"

Currently have over 3,000 games on it.

Some of the thumbnails work on the new games (none for MD or snes) but it's a manual process to match the title image with the game file. Have to do each one individually and the images I have are all in png and need to be converted to jpg.

Haven't played around with installing any other emulators (N64 would be good) and hope someone finds an easy fix for the game name display (currently only displays the 8.3 filename rather than full game name). The workaround is cumbersome.

    • Hi, do you have details on the 6 button issue and how you did this, or can point to the resources you used?
