I don't believe DNS based Adblock works for youtube ads. I use NextDNS myself now, previously using Adguard Home on my own server. Still using Firefox + Ublock Origin for browser based youtube and Youtube Revanced on mobile.
It is system wide at least on Android, but it needs to install its own CA certificate for HTTPS filtering. It does not block YouTube ads though. Their AdGuard Home (similar to pihole) or AdGuard DNS products can be used on a router. This doesn't have a maximum amount of queries, but their AdGuard DNS does.
Anyone know how this compares to Nexdns free ones?
No harm trying NextDNS free. It only has limited queries otherwise it's the same as the paid version and supports unlimited devices. Once you hit the query cap it just lets ads through again
I already have NextDNS free which I toggle on and off on the phone. It works fine but requires the set up. Was wondering if this one is just install, set and forget thenmight be a better option to share with family?
Oh sorry, I can't help there. I think there is an app? But just reading this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Adguard/comments/1f1i40r/how_to_use… It's really just an account with a license for 9 devices, so you either give the account credentials or they can sign in with the license key
I have been using this for a few years. It works fine but some websites fail to load or hang at which point you will have to disable filtering. Used to work with Gmail but does not work now.
Thats a great price for a lifetime sub. Whats Adguard like compared to other adblockers? Is it system wide ie cuts out ads in all apps including youtube and games? Can it be put on a router? Does it have a maximum number of queries per month? How does it compare to other adblockers or something like a piHole
