Give Back to The Community - Consider Disabling Adblock

Hey all,

I've been using Cheapies for years now, and it’s saved me a ton of money (and probably cost me just as much with all the deals I couldn’t resist 😂). But I just realized I’ve had an adblocker on the whole time 😬.

If you’re in the same boat, maybe think about turning it off for Cheapies? It’s a small way to support the site, and honestly, I don’t even think the ads are that annoying here.

Cheers, and happy bargain hunting!

Agreed. I've also recently realised I have adblock on all the time. Turned off just for Cheapies :)

  • Check your settings. Most will have an option to allow some adverts from "trusted" ad sources formthisbexact reason.

I sure wouldn't be turning it off completely though.

    • I might not have been clear enough, I meant disabling it ONLY for Cheapies.

Unless you're talking about turning it off for Cheapies while ALSO limiting the advertisements to controlled set via a settings.
If that's the case, please share more! I'm curious what is considered "trusted"?

  • Good point! This site and interest.co.nz provide so much free value to me. Make sure you click an ad and have a scroll around the landing page every now and then.

    • A lot of brands (chemist warehouse, macpac, platypus) have product feed banners.
I've had luck getting cheap products with them displaying their clearance items/pricing that I wouldn't have otherwise checked.

    • Brands like booking.com have dynamic pricing depending on your referrer (eg, search the same hotel directly on their site, versus going via google, versus an aggregator like trivago). Pretty sure the same applies through their ads as well.

Keep in mind that you can customise the brands you want to see - https://myadcenter.google.com/

I would rather pay to have no ads and support the site

    • Cheapies should introduce some token supporter program. This site has saved a lot of us a fair whack of money and is very well moderated.

      • It's all coming down to be "too much hassle to set up". If people don't want ads — please just use the adblocker or turn off ads in user settings page.

We are getting tiny bit of Brave Attention Token(basicattentiontoken.org) each month that usually translates to mere cents. You can "send tips" to websites but that sort of forces you to use Brave browser.

  • I forget i have ad block on, I will have to add cheapies to safe list.
