That site looks dodgy as. No way I'm risking giving them my cc details

Lots of people saying they never recieved their purchases, and no refund

Came to say this, pricing error or no, everything about that website screams red flags.

What on earth sort of a business model forces lay-bys? One that doesn't carry any stock and will absolutely liquidate with any partial payments at the drop of a hat.

Can I "Buy Now" without having to layby?
No, as we are a layby store we require a minimum layby term of 4 payments.

When will my item be delivered?
Allow between 10-25 business days after the final payment has been successfully processed for dispatch of your order to occur. This timeframe may be longer for larger items (e.g. furniture and whitegoods) or for some remote areas.

"I have the cash right now on hand, let me buy it"
"No, you must pay it off over four weeks"

They're outright lying when they say you can't buy now because they're a layby store, you can't buy now because they're going to dropship the goods to you, if at all.

    The website footer says 2023

    • There's plenty of red flags but that's not really one of them.

There's two (and a bit) schools of thought around those,
      - put the year the website came into being and leave it there, AKA that website was written in 2023
      - run a function that just writes this year
      - manually update it every year (why bother? Just do number 2)

In the the number 2 scenario, why bother writing a year at all? Your shop could be hit by a meteor and if your host still has enough preloaded credit, 10 years later it would say 2035 even though you ceased to exist in 2025. If you're going to just have a function that dumps the current year, just don't put a year at all because it's effectively meaningless anyway.

You don't really need to update the copyright year of a website, unless the content of the website has been updated. Copyright year should be year of content published.

  • Looks super dodgy and minimum spend is $50 with a finance option starting 6 weeks before they despatch. Not certain how that's legal to start paying without having the device.

Did pop up with a $20 off your first order though, $9 s24+ anyone?

    • It did give you option to pay it off in four weeks. Never purchased via lay buy in my life. But I do know a laybuy is only supplied once paid in full unlike a Hire Purchase where you take immediate posession.

    • $20 code is MLWELC20. Can only be used if your order is at least $150.

      From the website:
For the Coupon Code to work the Subtotal must be equal or greater than $150.00, Category must not be Gaming Consoles, Gift Cards, Gift Cards & Hampers.

Minimum order is $50, so tried ordering 2 paying via Paypal. Will see what happens.

Tried subscribing for the $20 code but never received it. EDIT: code is MLWELC20

… tried ordering 2 paying via Paypal.

Taking one for the CC team :-)

      • Gotta be in to win :)

I've missed out on too many deals lately cuz I was too slow

$74 delivered for two would be the deal of a lifetime! Paypal buyer protection or your credit card protection should cover you. Take a few screenshots

  • Thanks @ Wakrak - That looks much better

It looks like it's one guy running it, and he's in Australia. Domain is registered to Laybyland Pty Ltd, the Australian website is https://www.laybyland.com.au.

He's probably just going down to a store once the payment is complete, and buying the phone there then sending it off.

Not sure it's even worth trying.

  • No way they will honor the price.

  • Looking at the product code under the picture (and category), I guess its supposed to be following headset: Moki Popper ACC-HPP Wired On-Ear Headphones

  • Wait don't forget about the Future Price Guarantee:

If you start a Layby order today, and the price of that product is lower when you finish your payment plan, we will provide you with a myLayby Future Price Guarantee Discount Voucher for the difference in price. If however, the price is higher at the end of the plan than it was when you placed your order, you will still only be charged the initial lower price. Please also note that this Future Price Guarantee Discount Voucher can only be used on new orders and not on existing orders. myLayby has a minimum cart value of $50 after a voucher has been applied and the Future Price Guarantee Discount Voucher will have an expiry of 28 days from it's issue date. Future Price Guarantee Discount Vouchers have a minimum spend requirement that equals 4 times the face value of that voucher (i.e. if the Future Price Guarantee Discount Voucher value is $100, you will be required to spend at least $400 for that voucher to work). Any orders for Apple products are excluded from this Future Price Guarantee.

    • Can someone ELI5 this for me..

Did your PayPal payment go through?

If so, have they refunded it?

      • No payment was made yet. The first was scheduled for tomorrow I think.

I got an email from Paypal saying the automatic payment was cancelled

        • Cool - thanks :-)

  • Anyone else get the email where they just sent it to everyone in one email? Me + 30 others…

    • Yup, seems they don't care much for data protection laws. Add that to the list of complaints I guess.

    • yep same, what a horrendous joke of a company haha.

      • Had no right to do that and owed a duty of care
