Last year's Slingshot deal is up for renewal soon. What is a good deal now? Would prefer not to bundle with other utilities like the Contact deal.
Broadband Deal Recommendations for 2025

Thanks, will give them a call. Zeronet for ~$75/month with a 6 month broadband compare offer is probably the only other reasonable offer atm.
i sign up for smartcall(https://smartcall.nz/en/homeband/), 100mb/300mb is 84/month, and 450/950 is 104/month
Damn I am sure they're a legit company but that website reads like a scam 100%. Barely passable english
I was on the same slingshot $65 month deal and that ends last month. Rang their retention team and offered $15 monthly discount so $82 a month. Seemed like every other plan is in the $80 range so accepted it and stayed for another year
Wondering if it's worth the hassle to switch to Zeronet with their broadband compare offer
Not sure, but from what i read around Zero Net are quite bad.
This year i was thinking since they're all mostly in the 70-80 range per month, its not worth the hassle of moving over so stick with Slingshot at $82.
I have had Zeronet for over a year now and have had no issues.
Zeronet's customer service was a bit useless when we were setting up over a year ago, but it didn't help the previous owners of our house took the ONT with them which caused confusion.
They forgot to charge us for the first 6mths, and sent us 2 modems, so we've benefitted from their mistakes.
But since the initial setup we've had no issues whatsoever and so was worth it.
Saw sky doing 50 for 50mb which was the cheapest ive ever seen. First 12 months
Would like at least 200 down and with WFH, at least 50 up
From June all fibre connections would be upgraded to 100 mbps irrespective of retailers.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/business/541580/chorus-doubles-sp…
I work from home on 50 mbps, with atleast 2 other devices with something going on with no problem.I still find it bizarre seeing as they ramped almost everyone up tk 300/100 then slowly bjt surely the 50mbps plans have been creeping back in to the picture.
@Everettpsycho: Not sure what exactly they did that ramped everyone to 300/100… was there some promotion?
@mtx05: Back in 2021 all 100mb plans got boosted to 300mb, 30mb got bumped to 50mb. Back then though it was hard to find a 30mb plan and 100 was the predominant offeringso most users got 300.. Fast forward 4 years and most retailers now offer 50mb plans so downgraded their entry level plans.
Last year $65 deals were plenty, this year the lowest is $80, the Chrous wholesale price is now $62.10 inc gst, so there isn't much margin in general home fibre I don't think.
Thanks, will give them a call. Zeronet and Ash Net are the only ones offering a cheaper yearly price. Not keen to go with Ash Net but Zeronet for ~$75/month with a 6 month broadband compare offer seems ok to me.
what's the wholesale price for Fibre 50 plans?
https://sp.chorus.co.nz/consultation/proposed-ufb-price-chan…
behind paywall
where's the paywall? have you tried loading it on smry?
I noticed Slingshot is offering 3 months free, which is bundled with $10 off per month if you sign up for 12 months. It works out to $65.25 per month (for the 300/100 plan). You would need to sign up under someone else's name.
https://www.slingshot.co.nz/stuff-fibreNice, will give it a go
Thanks for this. That's a good deal, brings the Gigantic plan to about $74 per month.
Rang them up and they have promised a callback from the retention team with an offer.
Will wait and see otherwise, Skinny with a free month is only reasonable looking deal at about $87/month…
UPDATE:
Slingshot retention team didn't call back so I chased them.
Could offer nothing substantial unfortunately; measly credit circa $10.
Did say that signing up as new customer to take advantage of the new deal may or may not work … Apparently, some customers have had issues doing that while others have not.
Link is no longer active,
Darn I wanted to sign up
Slingshot sent me an email today advising a $2/month price increase from March….
New price will be $111/month.
Hoping there's better out there.
Got the same email today - good thing is you can ask to cancel the contract and not pay early termination fees, which works well for me since I still have a few months left, so time to change!
I'm with Mercury for power so took advantage of their 6 months free offer. Currently in last month of Slingshot $70 deal ($65 + $5 modem).
That's a good deal. My energy bill is going to be unpredictable this year so trying to not bundle for now
I am with Mercury with power too, but when I did the math of Mercury vs other providers, they ended up being $600 more expensive per year! Turns out they give in one place and take in another. I'm glad its worked for you though
Agreed.
Its the same stuff they pull with their 'free' whiteware and TV's. You're paying for it, it's just incorporated into higher power prices.
Can work if you actually need the item.
Assuming no price rises I worked out my mother would be about $3-400 better off than her current plan with the kWh being about the same price as her current plan, and not much worse than the current cheapest.
Of course that's assuming you would have otherwise paid full price on that item. When in reality you'd prob get it for 20-30% off during a sale, or a cheaper product.
Hey @jjjj - that is quite a lot $600/year. How did you figure that? I had to take Mercury for Gas as there were one of the few that provided both in one package.
I had to take Mercury for Gas as there were one of the few that provided both in one package.
Could you not split them into two separate accounts?
Often bundles work out more expensive over time.
Just got my internet connected to Mercury last week. Seamless. The eero app is quite nice too.
2degrees is good if you/parents have supergold card for $5/mo off the plan too.
2degrees cold called my parents as their prior discounted 12 month term just ended and offered them $80/mo(after supergold $5/mo discount), up from $77/mo
Unlimited Fibre 300/100 $95/month
$10 loyalty discount
12 month contract
$5 supergold discount
TOTAL PRICING: $80.00/monthNot bad to be honest, nice to see them proactively chase customer retention
Just switched from Quic back to Slingshot. We really wanted to like Quic since it was the cheapest by far (50 down/10 up service) but our connection has always been unreliable with them, and I swear they have more downtime as well.
I'd been considering Quic as well, but might stick with Slingshot now. Out of interest, which part of the country are you in if you don't mind saying here? I've read some discussion on Geekzone about the physical routes they use being a factor in the connection.
Was shopping plans today and spoke to Slingshot best they could do is 94 for Unlimited Gigantic for a existing customer, I asked if I close this account and re-sign up would I be considered a new customer and was told 'Yes', I said close this account and I will sign up with the Stuff promo as mentioned by @Bargain-Hunter, the retention team member had no idea what I was talking about and said 'Why would you do that' and asked for the link, I was then put on hold while they spoke to their manager and then got told they will not honor this promo if I signed up as it is only for previous Stuff customers only? and it is also 'expired'
Just because you're a customer if theres anyone else in the house they aren't. I've definitely swapped to a new customer deal with retailers in the past by just changing who is signed up to the same company.
For the time being, the Stuff promo webpage is still active, and there doesn't appear to be any T&Cs stating that it's only for previous Stuff customers. I would suggest having someone else in your household sign up.
Yeah you are right I had a look over T&Cs before ringing, spent a good 15 min trying to explain this getting no where when the whole phone call could of been 5min, gave up in the end wasn't worth the hassle to be honest the CS team over at slingshot are something else to say the least. Would've been a good deal grats to anyone who manages to get it and Cheers for posting.
Been with Spark for 10+ years with zero issues. On Essential Fibre with Unlimited data $96/month
If they keep up the reliable connection for that price I'll never move.
I couldn't get by with more than a few hours downtime. So I'm happy to pay more for the reliable connection.
Others might be as good, but to save a few $\day I don't have the motivation to test them.Yes, if you include Netflix in the Plus version of the plan, it’s pretty hard to beat (though surely Spark will have to pass on the Netflix price rises at some point).
Worth mentioning that Skinny fibre is functionally Spark minus the value adds (Netflix, phone data if fibre goes down, etc) and untagged vs VLAN10 on Spark. I was on the same $96 Spark plan but just switched to Skinny for $80/mo plus first month free. Not huge savings but $272 over a year for the same service is better than nothing.
Is untagged or VLAN10 better??
Untagged.
@ace310: Hi Ace,
I've never found it to make any difference myself - why would untagged be 'better'?
I had guessed that the ISPs just used the VLAN tags to separate services (internet, VOIP, etc), but maybe my guess is wrong?
Thanks,
Alan.

Press release:
Chorus today announces free speed upgrades to some of its most popular wholesale plans, in anticipation of New Zealand’s ever-growing demand for high-speed internet.
Chorus has consulted with its broadband retailers on how best to work with them to deliver these upgrades – with significant download speed boosts to Fibre 50 plans (including Home Fibre Starter) and Home Fibre 300. This will be at no additional cost to broadband providers from Chorus – so that the speed upgrades can be passed through to consumers.
From June 2025, the fast-growing 50/10Mbps plan will have double the download and upload speeds to 100/20Mbps; while the most popular residential plan, 300/100Mbps, will see a significant boost to 500/100Mbps. Any upgrades to eligible consumer plans will be determined by the broadband providers.
As the country’s largest wholesale fibre provider, Chorus recognises the need to meet the evolving internet demands of Kiwis – as well as anticipate future growth in data consumption and the emergence of new digitally-connected technologies.
Evident by Chorus’ recent network usage ‘peaks’ across 2024, Kiwis are becoming more data hungry in general, and major events such as streaming the Black Caps test match and Fortnite updates are taking more broadband bandwidth than ever. New Zealanders’ household data usage growth has skyrocketed over the last decade, growing 13-fold from less than 50GB on average per month to about 650GB today.
Something to keep in mind for people, starter 50/10 going to 100/20 is going to be fantastic value at current pricing.
Update.
Slingshot retentions have come back and offered a monthly discount bringing the gigantic offering to $96/month and a one-off $30 credit.
Effectively, $93.5/month…
Nice, I just got the $2 increase email, I might try my luck and get the above. Did you email or call them?
I called them.
Fibre Max works out to $86/month after the $300 credit (+ modem costs)
https://one.nz/legal/terms-conditions/broadband-300-join-202…Did some research and this seems to be cheapest plan for gigabit. Unless I missed something even better out there
Cheers! That beats Skinny.
Is One NZ a good provider?
Is One NZ a good provider?
Customer service, at least when they were Vodafone, was the worst I ever had the displeasure of dealing with at a Telco.
I swore then, that I would never, never, go back to them.
The network itself was ok for me - it's just if there's an issue their support team and choice of hardware is honestly garbage. I went through 7x routers (5 or 6 were Huawei branded) in the decade I was with them; I'd say if you have your own BYO router it'd be an okay choice.
That sounds more like an electrical or heat issue to me to lose that many units. Like setting it up it in direct sunlight with a window in front of it making it fail often in summer etc.
@Dunno: Eh granted it was upstairs where there was no aircon but it was kept out of sunlight. Moved to an Asus unit provided by MyRepublic (Rest in peace) and have been using the same unit for several years since without any issues.
My Slingshot 12-month $65 term has just expired too. I was looking for a no-contract 300/100 plan, as I have wondered about going to 100/20 later this year.
It looks like $80/month is the new baseline, and there aren't a lot of perks to be found.
I ended up signing up with Quic 300/100 for $85/mo (but the first month was $57 including set-up after a 50% discount). I also considered Simply Broadband which has the same plan for 79.79/mo (no set-up fee). Who knows, I might still switch over to Simply in a few months.
Hopefully the upgrade of the lower 50/10 plans to 100/20 shakes things up a bit.
they will jack up the 50/10 when it becomes 100/20. no escaping.
possibly, as I understand it the pricing from Chorus doesn't change ("free upgrade"), but the ISPs might use the change to increase their profits
How did you get the 50% off the first month with Quic?
will PM you.
slingshot offered me 4/5g at $60/month, $150 credit. term until end of contract with current fibre plan - november
not bad. was on skinny 4g a few years ago and it was ok for a small household. it can support a few streams (netflix+youtube+a zoom vid call) at the same time.
Wee update.
I went with Skinny because after including the connection fee, Zeronet were only $65 cheaper for the year. Didn't want to risk it…
However, it's 72hrs after my start date and I have no broadband.
Only thing is I have a customer support phone number to call but so far, not good as they've not been able to sort it after 2 calls.
And now, at the weekend, the phone line is dead. The only way to reach them is either Facebook or apple messenger which is stupid as in 2025 surely they've heard of a cross platform messenger like WhatsApp?
If you are neither a meta or apple ecosystem user, sucks to be you on the weekend.
Very frustrating. Have to wait until Monday which will be 5 DAYS WITHOUT SERVICE.
did you swap the port on your ONT running to your router (assuming fibre)?
Hi, what do you mean?
Yes, fibre.
Left everything as is from when with slingshot (& myrepublic before)Ethernet cable from LAN1 port on ONT going to router. Should it be elsewhere?
Got 2 green lights on ONT (power and GPON).
Skinny rep said the ONT serial number was a mismatch - no idea how. I gave the correct serial number from my box and was assured it would be all good in a few hours.
Sadly it's the weekend now and no phone service until Monday
Theres multiple ports on the ont, sometimes when an isp doesnt relinquish service it can be provisioned on to the second lan port of the ont. Try moving the ethernet cable in the ont to the port next to the one you're using.
The fact you have a gpon light lit up siggest you should be getting something.
@Everettpsycho: Thank you very much. Appreciate the advice. I tried with LAN2 without luck. I'll try the other LAN ports on the ONT.
My router says "WAN port is unplugged" when I try to set things up.
Logging in to my Skinny broadband account shows this:
"It looks like we haven't got your connection up and running just yet. "
All rather weird and makes me think the problem is on their end despite what support says.
@strangercheapie: As much as its meant to be easy to switch i don't think I've ever experienced a seamless cutover when changing. Every time one party stuffs it up in some way or another and i have to request assistance from contacts in the industry to resolve it.
The fact skinny says its not set up suggests they havent activated it properly.
@Everettpsycho: Thank you.
The Skinny team were sure it was set up but my online account says different.
I've now tried all the LAN slots (4), tried 3 different cables and even done the manual reset on my router.
I just have to wait until Monday.
If still no joy I'll have to go elsewhere.
Maybe having a contact number for customer service isn't all it's cracked up to be! LOL.
@strangercheapie: One assumes you solved it and now know. But you can't just switch provider and that's it. You need to set up the router with their set-up details (which you have to do yourself I'd you don't take their preset-up one).
There is usually a FAQ on their site for future reference for others.
@LupinS: Thanks. Turns out it was a problem on their end. Between them and Chorus, they hadn't quite switched on my service!
Righto!
Final update.
I'm pleased to report that we're up and running with Skinny.
One phone call to customer services today and finally got sorted. They blamed Chorus for not actually setting up the fibre correctly: apparently they activated the wrong ONT box, didn't action the connection request or summat.
I wish it could've been sorted on Friday but I have to say, getting to speak to someone on the phone and explain the predicament was great.
Thanks everyone. You all rock!Slingshot Gigantic $86/month + modem costs
https://www.slingshot.co.nz/plans/builder?byod=Yes&frequency…
$72 for the 300/100 plan on there. Feels like slim pickings out there at the moment.
Are slingshot on cgnat yet? I still find it hard to believe they havent deployed it yet following the vocus 2degrees merger.
Yes, they are on cgnat. But you can opt out of it if you want.
Just about to move rural and there is no fibre connection. Getting 2 degrees 4g unlimited connection. Not far out of town so hopefully speeds will be tolerable. Will see how it goes. Only $40 a month with a connected mobile plan. At least its a lower price with the speed reduction from fibre.
You could consider starlink too but it's ~$80/mo for the lite plan(50-100mbps) plus the upfront cost for the dish($449) plus install fee. Can do a 30 day trial to see if you are happy with the service and return the hardware if not.
You could just set it up outside in an open area with line of sight to the sky rather than mounting it to trial it rather than installing it to the roof.
I'm moving to a fibre area if you fancy starlink. Can ship the dish if you want to buy one. Vdsl is so bad when I used it. Luckily you get unlimited, this area is limited to 100gb of 4g.
Thanks I think I'll stick with the 4g connection for now and see how it goes. Might need to upgrade once the kids get older but will be fine for now.
Hotshot is $80 for 300/100 and is open term. https://www.hotshot.nz/
I used them before and they were great, only switched to Slingshot to get a cheaper bill, but now Slingshot 12 months contract is up and I'm back to paying $82.
there was a guy on reddit who claimed he had his own ISP and was reseller? let me see if I can find the account
I saw this as well, and had it bookmarked for a while. Will also see if I can track him down.
Just had a call with Fast Connect. They offered $65/m for fibre300 with 2Degrees. BYO modem. Not too bad IMO.
Is there a contract?
Just a standard 12-month contract.
That's really good never heard of them, are they CG nat?
Any good?It's the 2Degrees broadband plan…
Ah got you. Good price for fibre at least.
@jackvdbuk: I'm about to call 2Degrees tonight to change the main account holder to my mum who lives with us, so we can use her Super Gold card to get a further $5 off.
Are you sure it's Fiber300? I just called them and they said it's $65/month for the 2Degrees fiber starter plan, which is 50/10Mbps.
Bugger! Just checked the welcome email and it's indeed the starter plan! The sales person didn't mention the speed at all!
But Fiber300 is the one that gives you 300/100, so maybe they misquoted you?
@NovaAlpha: I told them that I signed up for the Fiber300 plan with Slingshot through them last year for $60/m and I asked if there were any similar deals this year and they offered me this without telling me the speed difference! I thought it was the same speed!

I was with Slingshot for broadband and power, had the $20 bundle discount and a $20 a month discount. I contact them a week before that finished asking to get the extra $20 discount or at least get $10 like new customers. They offered $15 and $100 credit which was good. Might not be as good if you're not bundled but talk to them about extending any deal you've got.
