I've been looking for the WiiM Mini for a while as a cheap hi-fi streamer that supports Tidal Connect, and just bought one from Amazon AU today, as I think this is quite a good price (and I need want one now). These are normally $179 (sometimes $169) locally in NZ, so $130 is a nice $49/$39 discount. Never seen it for less than that in the past few weeks - apparently ATL was around A$90 (~NZ$100) last year as per this Ozbargain post(ozbargain.com.au).

Check the Official website(wiimhome.com) with more detailed information.

Has great reviews in many Hi-Fi websites:

Just noticed the same deal has been posted on Ozbargain while I was taking too long to post it here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/891693

  • Excuse my ignorance, but aside from the audio quality, how is this gizmo any different to say an Alexa hooked up to a stereo?

    • I guess that wouldn't support AirPlay?

    • +1

Well, the audio quality is one big thing - you can use the optical digital output of the Wiim to plug into your stereo's DAC for lossless hi-fi, while the Echos don't have a digital output.

The Wiim can also be used as an Airplay endpoint, so you can send audio from an Apple device (iPhone, ATV, iPad) to your stereo (even though Airplay is lossy) and use it in multi-room audio setups. The Echos can't be used for Airplay.

But one of the main reasons I bought it is because the Wiim is also a Tidal Connect endpoint. You can stream Tidal music directly to it (not cast from your phone), similarly to how Spotify Connect works, but in this case the stream is lossless and hi-fi, which Spotify is unable to do.

      Hope that helped :)

      • Thanks for the write up, yeah it does.
