Word of warning. The internet isn’t very happy with Garmin at the moment. The Fenix 7 is “one generation behind” but has already apparently been dropped when it comes to feature enhancements via firmware even though the overpriced Fenix 8 is mostly the same hardware.

Super cynical of Garmin and the internet is biting back.

    • Nothing new for Garmin, was pretty much the same story with the Fenix 6 & 5.

Buy a product for the features it offers at launch, not the expectation that features will be added in the future. Applies to every product, not just Garmin.

For a device of this price every other manufacturers are adding software features for multiple years.

        • Garmin has never been like that though.

    • This isn't great, but my 2c here is that I'm rocking a Garmin Fenix 3 from 10 years ago and it's still going strong, with batteries lasting about 3 weeks (with moderate standard use, but without using GPS run tracking, which saps it quicker).

In saying that, I believe the last major update for the Fenix 3 was in 2019, 4 years after release, so maybe things have changed.

Harvey Norman was doing them for $998 couple months back, i got one back in October for $1,098 and was a nice upgrade from my Fenix 6 Pro.

    • I saw that at the Boxing Day sales and was pretty sure it was the non Solar?

      • They don't do a non solar version of the 7 Pro.

        • Oops thanks. I got caught up trying to avoid the non-Sapphire as I read somewhere that for some reason the glare isn’t as bad (but still bad) on these models due to the Solar including a panel right over the face of the watch rather than just around the screen.

    • They had it for $847 during their one day sale on 29th December.

  • I bought one of these a few weeks ago at $1198 on clearance, so this is a decent deal. Very happy with the watch, I've used Garmin for years and never had any issues with updates. Of course they're going to save new features for new watches, all companies do this. Buy it for the features you want now. A few people on reddit may be moaning but that's just the usual case.
