Sweet, have been waiting for ages for a better sign up deal.

    • yeah 100% this is the best I've seen it in a very long time

  • +3

Thanks, time to apply under the partners name and cancel mine

    • Same here, although she currently has a supplementary/additional card under her name linked to my card. Does anyone know whether this counts as 'holding an Amex card product in the past 18 months'? Can't tell from T&Cs but would be a shame if so as we never use it and only set it up because of a previous credit promo for adding an additional/supplementary card.

I am in the same situation. I just messaged them through the chat, their response:

'If you have never held any 'primary' Amex card in last 18 months, you will be eligible for welcome bonus offer on your first Amex card.'

    • Could be a dumb question, but does anyone know how Airpoints accumulated in an account work? If we cancel and transfer the account to my partner's name, will the accumulated Airpoints be canceled as well?

  • Apart from Airpoints bonus, is there any other benefits in using Amex over other CCs?

    • +1

They often have cash back promos which have been quite good - you would've seen a lot of them posted on cheapies.

The biggest benefit for me has been the screen insurance though - did a $500 claim recently that more than made up for the annual cost

      travel insurance included
      Phone screen protection
Amex benefits (often posted on here)
      Shop small program in October
      Best date of return
      Excellent CS

Well worth it in my humble opinion. If spending 12k/year at least on a CC (1000/month) you will break even at least through other benefits.

Bad to use for different currencies ~3%

      Good luck out there

        Priority Pass lounge access

        • You get 2? a year

I have used them before… pretty shit lounges haha (But better than nothing thou)

          • +1

@moxpearl: I have the Westpac world card, gives unlimited PP lounges - some of the PP lounges around the world are amazing you must of just been to the shitty airports.

            • @pmatnzzz: With the Westpac world, do they charge extra if you bring your wife or kids along?

            • @pmatnzzz: Yeah fair enough, have only been to 3-4 of them :)

Worst by far was Brisbane. (Granted I think that is closed now)

          • @moxpearl: some places like NZ yes. Others are top notch

      • The break even is $14k/year now due to it being $70/airpoint (used to be $59/airpoint)

That's assuming 1 airpoint is worth $1, which it isn't really, unless you're buying flights. The Airpoints store is fairly overpriced for example.

          • @felixfurtak: Depends on your situation I guess.
I've easily made mine back through a mixture of flights and mitre10 gift cards (which is 1:1) which I would have spent real money on anyway.

They do the occasional airpoint store sale which has had some OK buys.

      • Best date of return?

        Thx

    • Generally speaking Amex NZ cards has up to 55 days interest free, compares other cards (ANZ visa…etc), which only has 44 days interest free. Give you a bit more buffer. This is not financial advise.

  • Gem have something like that too…..

    • $150 cash back on $1000 spent. Different ball game.

      • I saw the ad…. Something like that. Cash better than points…..

        • Certainly could be if you don't fly.

  • Site is down…

  • What generally is min salary for approval?

  • Can you apply the same Airpoints number to multiple Anex cards?

  • Is this the only credit card that does Lounge passes now? We have a ANZ Airpoints Visa but they cancelled them.

    • Westpac World Mastercard

      • Do you get charged for bringing immediate family (partner + kid) into the lounge? I read in the T&C that it's lounge dependent but couldn't find any info around whether it'll be charged if the lounge allows entry for all.

    • I found the Priority Pass system useless for us when we had this card, you have to sign up which is $99+ to then use the 2 free passes. We only wanted to use the 2 "free" passes so it wasn't worth it. The passes for Centurion Lounges at Sydney or Melbourne could be good if you go there.

      • +1

Really you must have had this card a long time ago, now its changed so you get a free Priority Pass membership with the two free lounge visits I just used it last month

        • Hmm, interesting. Maybe Priority Pass membership was included too, we couldn't use the passes though because we hadn't signed up with PP, just a little condition I hadn't read or didn't remember.

      • Not useless.
You need to join PP separately down the app and sign in.

  • So for these can you do say one for me (i last had an Amex Jan 23 so shouild be good for the bonus) , one for my wife and we end up with 800 airpoints?

  • Does the annual account fee get charged when signing up or is the first annual fee charge after having the card for 12 months?

  • How do you join PP to get the two free passes without paying for a membership? I got the app but it keeps wanting to charge me.

  • I thought this would take weeks for my application to be reviewed:

Applied on the 12th, approved on the 14th, card shipped on the 17th.

    Any tips to maximise value?

Currently Air NZ elite, have ANZ Airpoints Platinum for the 50% SPs.

  • Is fee charged full fee once a year of half fee twice a year

    • Full fee once a year
