Have had one for a couple of years. Would never recommend it to anyone. This is a terrible umbrella where you don't have an absolute still day. It swings wildly even in the slightest breeze at the only point it connects to the frame at the top. Due to this is causes massive stress on the base where the upright attaches to the legs, which further exacerbates the movement in any breeze. If you can find a way for it to not move under a tiny wind, then it's a nice shade. Otherwise nope.

  • Wondering what to get in terms of base weights now. The concrete panel ones may leach, staining our concrete patio, and the plastic fill with water / sand versions (Bunnings, Briscoes) have mixed reviews with leaks and non galv parts. I see Mitre10 do a beast of a unit for $300, which is also a slightly smaller footprint than the other versions which all appear to be 1sqm.

    • Do the concrete pavers and just separate them from your patio with a layer of heavy duty plastic sheet - a piece of old tarp would work, or you can buy some black plastic from Bunnings.

    • I don't recommend the umbrella - see other comment, but in my case I just screwed the base into my deck with long screws. The base rusts very easily too I found, so I'd recommend something between it and ground.
