Digital Door Smart Lock - Wi-Fi Enabled

Read through the last forum post for this in 2023 and was wondering if those using digital door locks have any insights to share?
Google AI says this Schlage one is highly rated but I'm wondering if it is the same for NZ as well as maybe US market? https://www.schlage.com/en/home/smart-locks/encode.html This one is cool as it apparently 'auto updates' the firmware over built in wifi..

Are there any recommended ones out there that can be configured on the phone, wifi enabled, auto firmware updates and potentially have solar battery so no need to replace batteries?

Also, having a physical key slot - would that defeat the purpose of having programmeable digital codes?

  • I would never want my door lock to auto-update - sounds like a really bad idea, bit like allowing your router to auto-update.

You could get locked out, or the door left unlocked when you are away.

I would always let the great unwashed masses test updates for you first, then apply them if they appear to have not issues.

On the other hand… I changed my mind, and encourage you all to auto-update and test for me :-)

    • Haha fair point. Maybe auto update is an option?

      • No idea, but you listed it as something you wanted… ;-)

  • I have a Yale one and love it. It has Bluetooth, WiFi for smart home stuff (like reminding me if I left the door open, or to remote open or config it for guests/family) and also has a pin code and physical key options for backup. It takes 4 AAs which I recharge once a year.
