Not the cheapest, but still a decent one.

  • As with any cheap mini pc I recommend scanning them for malware if you plan to use the 'clean' install on them. A fresh install with your own sourced windows if you have another licence(ie Windows 11 LTSC would be good) is always going to be a safer option. Gmktec provide their drivers on the website(many dodgy ones don't and only provide the windows image).

  • Gross, Intel actually codenamed these Alder Lake…ish.

It's not Alder Lake, it's Alder Lake-N, which is really just Atom under the full fat name.

P Cores = Normal full fat cores that everyone knows and loves
    E Cores = Atom cores

Alder Lake-N only has E cores, so it's an Atom disguised as something more performant.

So for anyone unawares, it may be called Alder Lake, but it's Atom.

An equivalent would have been calling the Pentium N4200 Skylake-N.

    • So basically the Celerons

      • Pretty much, don't read "Alder Lake" and think Alder Lake performance, read Alder Lake-N and think Atom performance.

        School Chromebook performance.

        • It's similar to a quad core 6th gen i5, not exactly Atom performance lol. E cores are not Atom cores.

@kfr23: It is exactly Atom performance. The N4200 is more powerful than a Core2 Extreme QX6800. "Not exactly Atom performance lol".

Atoms are advancing as well, but they're nothing like a full fat core of the same generation.

6th Gen i5 came out a literal decade ago (10 years exactly), whilst the N4200 and Core2 Extreme QX6800 are 9 years apart.

So "Atom performance" could probably be said to be that of a 10 year old processor.

          • @kfr23: And yes, E cores ARE Atom cores.

What's your basis for thinking they're not?

            Here's the reality:
            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gracemont_(microarchitecture)
"Gracemont is a microarchitecture for low-power processors used in systems on a chip (SoCs) made by Intel, and is the successor to Tremont. Like its predecessor, it is also implemented as low-power cores in a hybrid design of the Alder Lake, Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh processors.

Gracemont is the fourth generation out-of-order low-power Atom microarchitecture, built on the Intel 7 manufacturing process."

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tremont_(microarchitecture)
"Tremont is a microarchitecture for low-power Atom, Celeron and Pentium Silver branded processors used in systems on a chip (SoCs) made by Intel. It is the successor to Goldmont Plus."

            And finally:
            https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/codenam…

They still make Atoms, and they're just E-cores under the Alder Lake-N family. The Atom x7425E is actually more powerful than the N100 (the N97 is weirdly a frequency bumped N100).

            • @danvelopment: Okay you're right, sorry. Anyway, the main reason people seem to buy these is because the GPU can do AV1 decode.

  • Amazon cancelled my order due to an unspecified technical error.
