  • Im tempted with this recent heat. So it'd be $376.20 at briscoes after price beat.

Might just hold out for a briscoes 50% off.

    • Doubt it will go that low I know what the margin is and they aren't making anything on it.
Great device does what it says on the tin

Briscoes has been doing 50% off storewide (excluding online only) sales or friends and family 50% off that people jave shared in here. A few last year and one earlier this year. Maybe they'll have another in a couple months.

        • I've been watching a couple of items on Briscoes waiting for the 50% off storewide sales - the problem I've noticed is that Briscoes regularly remove various items from their website. My guess is that they remove items that would end up losing money from these 50% off storewide sales. :/

          • @4znDvd: Do you know if its removed from the shelves as well?

            • @Stoic: Not sure - haven't had a 50% off sale since I started watching these various items. Have just noticed them disappearing and reappearing on a somewhat regular basis. If you save their links they still take you to the product page but all the prices, purchasing option and stock info disappears.

  • Anyone have one? I'm super tempted.

Yeap, purchased one last week direct from Ninja for $540. Only used it a couple of times so far but the results have been good. I'd say it would pay to check out some videos first as some drinks aren't as easy as just pouring a liquid it into the machine.

For example: diet soda/low sugar drinks won't slush up normally, so you have to add erythritol or allulose (fake sweeteners) to help it form crystals. They also suggest you add lemon juice and salt as well, presumably to cut through the extra sweetness you add.

There's a bit of science that goes into regular spiked drinks as well, requiring a specific window of alcohol and brix (a measurement of dissolved sugar). There are tonnes of videos online that will give you the exact measurements for stuff which makes it super easy, but you have to make 450ml minimum whenever using the machine.

My only other observation so far is that once the amount of slush in the machine gets low, it's quite slow to come out. Sometimes to the point that stuff will just get stuck in it.

Great explanation. I once had a business that focused on the commercial versions of these machines with up to 36 litres total per machine. I would hire them out to corporate events, weddings, birthdays etc.

Good things to slush down are anything off the shelf that's full sugar including coke/pepsi range soft drinks and juices.
A favourite of a lot of my customers was pineapple juice, coconut cream and vodka. An easy, tasty, cheap cocktail to make.

DO NOT use anything sugar free which includes drinks with non-sugar sweeteners. These will absolutely destroy these machines and it's not worth the risk.

The freebie 1 litre Keri juice would work perfectly in this machine.

        • In what way does it destroy it?
Assuming its towards running the compressor for longer that it should.

          • @mdsl32: By the looks of the machine, the auger (plastic blades) that rotate around the stainless cylinder (freezer) which turns the liquid into ice is attached to a direct drive motor. If you use a non sugar mix it will freeze solid while the motor will continue to work. The smallest problem that will happen is that the auger will snap or strip out the hole where it attaches to the rotating drive.
If the motor isn't strong enough to break the auger then it will keep on trying to spin while frozen solid and will eventually burn itself out. This will probably void the warranty turning it into a door stop as the replacement parts will be expensive or very difficult to find.

In saying all of this, it may have an internal magnetic drive or clutch system which will then continue to work the motor if frozen solid, but shouldn't damage it… But in keeping costs down, I doubt it.

  • Canterbury is the only region with no stock.
