Issues Accessing Cashrewards Account

When trying to access my Cashrewards account, I get the prompt:

Hey, it's been a while!
We've enhanced security at cashrewards and noticed your password may be at risk.
To continue:
- Create a new password
- Add a mobile number

However, it does not accept a New Zealand number.

Has anyone else encountered this issue and managed to resolve it? Support has been unhelpful so far.

  • I haven't encountered this.
My cash rewards au account has 2fa enabled with a nz mobile phone already.

Are you using +64…. as the phone number prefix?

  • Some providers use cheapo overseas SMS senders that seem to have trouble getting an SMS through to certain NZ numbers (I'm sure there is a pattern, but I can't tell what it is).

    Maybe that is the issue?

Personally, I haven't had any issues receiving SMS texts to 2Degrees or Spark (I'm sure there are others that are fine too), but I have had problems to numbers from places like Kogan, 2Talk, etc, whereas if I sent a message from within NZ (cross network), it was delivered immediately with no issues.

If it is an option, I have found that if the other party (CashRewards in your case) call the number (and a computerised voice reads out a six digit code or whatever), it sometimes works fine, whereas SMS does not.

    • Unfortunately, it doesn't even send an SMS; it just gives an error saying that the number isn't formatted correctly.

      • +1

I know you said below that it only allows numbers starting with 04 and 05, but did you also try 00 (as in something like 006422123456)?

Probably won't work either, but just checking.

Maybe CashRewards have changed the validation on their website since others here entered their mobile number. Could be a dumb developer that doesn't know any better, rather than an actual policy - in my experience, it often is, as they are lazy and use the first thing they find online, and copy / paste without actually understanding the coding.

  • Try adding 0 in front even if you have +64 added. See if that helps.

    • No luck. It only seems to accept numbers that start with 04 or 05. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
