I can confirm that it’s a great jump starter, but I just need to remember to disconnect the cable every time I use it. Otherwise, the battery drains really fast and dies quickly.
Is this just a regular powerbank that can be used for charging a phone?
no, jump-starting needs a large number of amps (this has a 400A Peak). If you tried to extract that many amps from a normal charger you'd turn into a fire!
It's not a regular power bank. You can use it to charge your phone, but also use it to jump start cars. It's the 400A output that's the part that's different to normal battery banks. Plus, normal battery banks don't have that special port that plugs in the jump starting cables anyway.
Ah I see, thank you for explaining the differences
Anyone who picked it up already from pbtech what is the manufacturing date please? Hopefully relatively fresh stock?
Can't see a mfg date on it, but it's fully charged out of the box
Thanks mate. Just hoping they are not moving 5 y.o. battery stock. 1 y.o. would be fine for example. :)
15% price beat with Mitre10 (https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/powerall-jump-starter-power-b…) brings this down to $78.15.
Tried to price match online. They came back with unable to price match due :"The product is not available for same day delivery or collection from our Mitre 10 Store", therefore exempt. I can't see any stores in Auck/Hamilton that have available stock.. Wondering if that was conveniently the case when pbtech started their sale
Theyre wrong. Go to the pbtech page and check stock levels. Theres stock at every pbtech store apart from auckland airport.
Blakecheapo's comment was referring to availability in Mitre10 stores not PBTech.
@lookingatewe: Yep, referring to Mitre10 stock.. if someone can find some instore somewhere, please share!
Can this only be charged by the DC cable or can also be charged via USB?
this only be charged by the DC charging cable or CAR 12V charging cable. But can not use TYPE C charging cable
Enough Amp Hours to jump a 3.0 TDI guys… probably a bit weak at 400 Amp Hours eh ?
Says in the manual it should be able to start up to a 3l diesel engine. I bought it to start a 1KD, guess we will see how it goes
Hi all - and thanks for the heads-up OP!
Just FYI, I ordered one on Sat and it arrived this morning. Was DOA and same after 4 hours on charge (5 LEDS lit up, but on pressing the power button, just a few very weak red flashes from one LED; torch didn't work at all). Did an online RMA and PB Tech accepted it straight away.
PB tech have been great right through (fast delivery, fast RMA). Mentioning this because if you get one it might pay to put it through its paces a bit and make sure it works. 1-year warranty is OK (Consumer Guarantees Act covers at least that anyway), but these things can sit in the car for q while before they might be needed so might pay to check and test.
Thanks for this!
Can you tell how old it is, considering one but not if the cells are more than a year (or so) old.
Nothing that I could see with a manf date. It did have uncovered Robertson (square) screws, so would guess that the battery is accessible. Not sure what type it is though or how easy to replace. Will see what happens once the RMA is done.
Bought this last year November during the black friday sale. Used it maybe 5 times max. Worked everytime. Went to check on it 2 weeks ago and the battery bloated and swollen. The entire thing was popping out which is dangerous. Went to claim warranty last week so still waiting on their diagnosis. I'm guessing this is old stock or something.
When I used it, it would jump start car 2 times and then require a recharge every week or so to keep it 5/5 bars in the battery.
I fully charged it, used it to jump start, left it in car for a week during November and the battery went to 3 bars after 1 jump start + a week.
Kept it in garage ever since November. Found it randomly bloated in 2 weeks ago to the point where unit was popping out.
Yeah a bit scary…
I picked one up last week from pbtech and i think you are right they must have gotten old stock somewhere and hence the discount. They want to clear it out quickly. Mine has 210805 on which most likely means August 2021. If so it will be 4 years old soon. Not great for a big lithium battery…
Beautiful work Sir - many thanks.
Thanks. I've been looking to get another one of these after my last one was stolen from my car last year.
Will price beat at M10.
