Chances of More Flight Discounts to Japan Later 2025

Hey so my 30th is this year and I want to spend it going to Japan with a mate.

I've seen deals for going to Japan pop up now and then but have been too anxious to book. I'm now seeing flights go up and up in price and am worried I may have missed all of the deals.

I'm not great with things like BeatThatFlight etc but was wondering if I could use Cheapies users experiences as to whether I could expect another sale to fly later this year, or if I'm better off buying now to avoid further hikes?

Cheers very much in advanced!

You can track flight prices on Google flights or another way is to sign up on Air NZ grabaseat to email you when cheap flights pop up to Japan, you can select which flights you want to be notified via email.

    • Google flights is like the other places I've looked to use but faster and better, holy dang. Thank you!

  • Grabaseat:

    Auckland to Tokyo $1,539 return

Air nz flies direct, otherwise you can go cheaper stopping over somewhere, just search japan in Cheapies, e.g. the current deals https://www.cheapies.nz/node/50552, but as low as 700s return looking at prior deals.

    • Yeah that's the kind of stuff I'm hoping for, trying to see if the deals will pop up again, looks like they are likely to!

I bought return flights to Japan like 2 weeks ago with 15 hour layovers each way in Fiji for $1120 total. Gives plenty of time to explore a little in Fiji for the same price as getting to Japan.

My trick was to take note of which airlines travel on which days. I found that Fiji airways was considerably cheaper, and Tuesdays leaving/Saturdays (Japan time, Sunday nzt) return was the cheapest.

So leave 8am Tuesday, land about 10ish on Sunday evening.

Qantas Hovers around 1200 on a sale.
Fiji has gone as low as 999 but recently its around 1200 again (Nadi airport is a bit of a zoo so get a priority pass if possible)
AirNZ rarely goes on sale below 1500 but for 1300 i would take it to keep it simple.
