New Washing Machine recommendations please

Hello,

I am after a new washing machine 9kg budget around $2000. Don't mind front or top loader

Currently have a Miele WWD164 WCS 9kg for about 9 months but for some reason has not been doing a good job. Contacted Miele who sent out a technician but still having issues so will be giving me a refund.

I had researched alot and Miele was number 1. Did I just get a dud?

Any recommendations team? Bosch series 8?

I have a series 4 Bosch and it has been great since day dot.

I took a chance on a 10kg Hisense and love it! We have 4 kids and I do 2 loads daily. The seal had an issue around 6 months and their customer service was top notch - collected the old one and delivered a new one same day via warranty. No issues with the new one. Purchased the matching Hisense heat pump dryer and it’s unbelievable. Quicker and no shrinkage compared to the fisher & paykel equivalent we owned before it crapped out.

  • Personally I like Fisher and Paykel. Still a "semi" New Zealand company. Fantastic parts support and back up. If anything does go wrong they are super simple to repair with a vast amount of knowledge online. The good old F&P top loader is a true cult classic machine. The design hasn't really changed a lot in 40 years. Doesn't mean it's outdated. Just means it's good. Best of all that would come in well under your $2k budget

Sure, there are probably smart home automation features these machines don't have. You can add some of that functionality with a smart plug if you wanted. But I reckon a lot of the fancy bells and whistles on top of the line machines is just more stuff to go wrong.

We had an old (ie 20 years plus) F&P top loader, replaced it with a Panasonic 9kg front loader. Regretted it ever since…lol….seems much harsher on clothes(which is the opposite of what it should be), is slow as fk - the timer is just a random number that doesn't represent anything close to a minute on Earth, is a PITA for spinning larger heavier objects and is just a precious little flower. No experience with Bosch in the washing machine space but I would be looking towards that brand once I can find an excuse the eat the money we sunk into the Panasonic. I too have heard good things about Miele and do wonder if you got a dud from the start. My parents have Miele and Electrolux and love them.

  • I bought this top loader to replace my previous f&p machine: Fisher & Paykel 9kg Top Load Washing Machine with UV Sanitise Option. Hate it, it doesn't have an agitator, if I put it on a sense water level, normal wash, the water doesn't cover the whole load, which means even though I am using liquid washing detergent it leaves white streaks. If I alter the water level on a full load to high to avoid the white streaks, it takes 115 minutes, my old machine took 45 minutes!! Don't use the uv sanitise option.
No matter how I load the machine, clothes come out twisted and tangled.

I sold Bosch washing machines for three years at Hardly Normal - and I can assure you that they are the best around. Ours has been in use for 15 years and still going strong - in fact it's working as I type this! I'm sure you'll be happy with one. Good luck and shame about the Miele.

  • Thanks for all the comments team! Washing machines are alot cheaper in Aussie!

Was pretty guttered with the Miele as had read so many good things about the Miele.

Was looking at this https://www.harveynorman.co.nz/whiteware/laundry/front-loade… which was $1829 last week (have screenshot) but now is $2803!

    • We bought that model around a month ago when it was on special for a similar price. So far, a very nice machine.

Hopefully it comes down in price again. Or, just go to HN and see if they will honour the special price?

  • Heya Pedro,

    Cheers for the reply!

Might head on in tomorrow and see. Wish Miele would have got back earlier lol….but it has jumped up heaps!

Does it wash well and are the cycles extra long??

    • So far, seems to wash clothes well. My wife definitely says she notices a difference between the Bosch and our previous Panasonic front loader.

Cycle length depends on clothing mode. We normally use the Cottons setting and it takes 1hr for a 5kg load or 2.5hrs for 9kg. It has a quick wash setting as well I believe.

The main thing I noticed is just how quiet and smooth it runs.
