Have Had The Site Redirect to a McAfee Fake Virus Scam Page Twice Now

Happened on both home and work PC, but its the same chrome profile so not 100% certain that is it not an extension causing it.

Basically after sitting on the homepage for a little while, it redirected to one of those fake pages saying mcaffee has found something.

Anyone else see this happen at all recently? I have allowed this site for adblocks, but if this is the result I will be blocking again.

I don't ad-block this site, and I have never had anything like that happen, so I doubt that is the underlying issue.

My best guess is that you have malware of some kind on one or both of your machines - perhaps the infection spread from one to the other via something in common (the Chrome profile as you mention would seem the most likely vector, but could be something else if you share anything else between the two).

You could try deleting all your Chrome extensions on both machines, and see if that helps. If so, then research each one fully, and if it sounds legit, re-install from the original source (never from a third party location), one at a time, preferably only on one machine, and see if the issue recurs on that machine. If so, then you have likely determined the culprit.

  • Yep got the same yesterday, just checked my history for McAfee and there it is, this is the link which I didn't click through.

Yup got it today on my laptop with ublock origin disabled I was like wtf. Cheapies def sent me there as well maybe some malicious code infected the site or shitty ad? Xd

  • That's really interesting, and effectively debunks any idea of malware on either of the machines used by @richms

I'm now thinking it is more likely due to a dodgy ad as mentioned above.

  • The website appears to redirect from adspredictiv.com, seems to be hiding behind Cloudflare and the domain registrant is unknown. I've reported the issue to abuse @ Cloudflare and also sent them the link to this discussion forum. Neil has also emailed Publift (our advertising network provider) last Sunday morning so hopefully the issue will be fixed.

  • Same here, happened a few times today with Ublock off.

  • Has also happened to me, on multiple computers (both chrome, but separate profiles)

  • Still happening, yesterday and now today.

    • Me too

  • Me too

  • Happens every time I start a comment. Just happened now.
At least a relief my computer isn't infected. Well I really hope.

Still happening. At least the firewall at work is blocking the scam redirect site.

  • Also happening to me,

I try limit Ad blocking on sites like this to support them but will have to if this keeps happening :\

  • I’ve been getting it the past few days too intermittently

  • We're continuing discussions with the ad network provider and have linked to the new comments here.
