For 20 bucks I guess it’s not bad but it’s really not what you’d expect from Wahl based on my personal experience with it. If you have denser/thicker heard etc this absolutely sucks - super noisy, doesn’t cut smooth and you get a few snags along the way. Might be fine for people with thinner or lighter hair, or not a full beard. Took me like 20 mins to do a full trim and line up compared to my wahl lithium ion which takes less than 5 with a much better outcome. I’ve kept it as an emergency spare but would not take it travelling (what I originally bought it for).

I dont have the bushiest beard out there but my beard hair is very thick, it cannot be combed or styled (I havent tried any products really, I cant be bothered), it grows in every direction. That being said, I'm really lazy and I shave with this trimmer once every three to four weeks and in under five minutes impretty much done, it leaves me with a stubble sand paper beard for a day which I like so I dont get a baby face by shaving. My point is that it seems to work quite well for me, I've been using this very same one for twenty years now (I only replaced it once about six years ago just because I thought it was time, but it was working fine still) and my questin to you is, am I missing out on a world of better shaving? I aim to get a stubble after shaving, I wouldn't want a baby face.

      • I wonder if the quality has dropped in the last few years for this particular product. I also do not clean shave very often at all, and either aim for a faded or otherwise groomed beard or stubble myself. The one which I have is amazing. Its waterproof, rechargeable and the battery lasts - I used it 2-3 times a week when I went overseas for approx 3 weeks with no issues or loss in power, can get very close to the skin to line up, good quality guards which work well for different length cutting, not noisy and fast + smooth with no snagging issues ever. I had the Wahl advanced stainless steel, then upgraded later to the waterproof wahl lithium ion plus. They are not cheap, over 100 even on sale. I do find my Wahl clippers for actual haircutting, although bigger and less portable actually the best for quickly and accurately grooming my beard, plus they are even more powerful, so one swipe does the job - don't need to go over the area repeatedly and around 100 bucks ish. But those Temu ones for 20-30 bucks someone mentioned below would actually probably be the best bang for your buck in terms of an experience/quality/price tradeoff.

        • I tried thenones from temu/ali express, they are a great size but they just die after a few months, I wouldn’t recommend them at all.

    • so not good for…. body grooming

      • Might be alright for body grooming I suppose - hair is usually less dense

    • I have a thick hair but it's not really dense, but I can see the snagging issue happening for denser beards. I wouldn't use this for lining up at all though, I feel like it doesn't get close enough to the skin so I just use a straight blade for that

  • I've had one of these for probably over 10 years, so $19 is a good price to replace with new.
My beard is based on lack of self-esteem and self-loathing, so it suits me just fine for a weekly hacking and slashing.

Just bought one via PriceMatch from the warehouse. Thanks!

I have this for last 5 years, horrible honestly when compared to this temu one i got recently for $25. a x10 times better.

Plus you can get new blades for 8 bucks from temu.

got this one too, (and a foil shaver/clippers, for ~$60 all up) and yeah its great.

    • yep I've seen their foil shavers in the barbershops too - must be alright.

  • i have been using one of these for a few years to trim the body hair, uses 1 AA battery, sometimes on special.

Buy a Kemei 2299 from Ali express. About $30. Powerful. Rechargable. Look at the reviews on YouTube. Nothing under $150 in NZ would match it's performance.
