    Trick is to generate a 'real' fake number. Used to use a number format which I didn't think was anything like a working number. Found out later that it was someone's number. Felt bad. I've seen fake number generators for other countries but not NZ

      Hahaha, imagine the frustration that you were constantly getting marketing/spam calls and had no idea how it was happening!

      I just use my mobile number and change the second half of characters to 0's.

  There are sites like the following one which do a pretty good job at generating fake profiles. But the phone numbers are potentially live, so not fair to use them. No wish to use these sorts of tools in a fraudulent manner. Only to avoid the spam.
