Bit of a bummer for the $15 crew

@RevolutNZ , Why don't you allow no other ID other than NZ Passport or Driver license. Even NZ permanent residents can't be verified—bad system.

    • -2

Yeah, I had the same experience. Borderline false advertising, as the terms indicate it is open to people who are residents of NZ - https://www.revolut.com/en-NZ/legal/terms/

I had a negative experience with customer service over this point, so the company's rep is lessened in my mind. I sought out alternatives.

      • Have you tried wise? I’m tempted to go with either this or Wise

        • -1

imo rev is better than wise. I have both but I use Rev much more and especially with AliExpress, set it to USD and you get a better rate with Rev :D

Makes me quite concerned about giving Revolut any personal information at all if this is the quality of their staff.

        • They are known for this. They are very strict on what they allow, which also means that their security is a bit over the top (which I don't mind).

Sounds like their staff are more clueless than cautious.

Their use of the weird domain name is another clue in the same direction - like they don't get the risks (or just don't care), and would just be metaphorically 'rolling their eyes' at concerns / regrets customers might have.

I don't think I'll take the risk with giving them my ID. Once you do, you can't ever be sure that it will be safe with any other party, and it just feels like these guys might be a breach waiting to happen.

            • @Alan6984: I trust them more than I trust Wise. I've never got an email from them that doesn't use their own domain.

A marketing campaign doesn't count. Lots of companies use Amazon SES for sending emails, along with their analytics.

Good for you - I guess its nice that there are still a few trusting people out there :-)

                Okay.

    • Just to clarify, can you verify with just a driver license or also need NZ passport? I'm a permanent resident but have a driver license.

      • I used my NZ driver's licence and repeatedly got rejected. Was told I needed a NZ passport, which I obviously do not have as a non-citizen.

    • +2

@RevolutNZ they even told me that they don't accept nz drivers license as valid ID. WTH. I'll copy their reponse to me when I tried to sign up last year:

  • What is (ngih.net)?

I have no intention of going there just to find out!

    • Mmmm, My workplace blocked the url, the normal Revolut website works fine

    • From ChatGPT: The domain "ngih.net" is associated with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the United States and has been observed 192 times on urlscan.io, a website scanner for suspicious and malicious URLs. However, specific information about the purpose or content of "ngih.net" is not readily available. It's possible that "ngih.net" is used as a tracking or referral domain. For example, a link to Revolut's website includes "ngih.net" in the URL: https://revolut.ngih.net/3M40X. This suggests that "ngih.net" might serve as an intermediary for tracking referrals or marketing campaigns.

      • +3

Yep, The ngih.net url redirects to https://www.revolut.com/en-NZ/promo/aff-topup-topup40/ so likely its used for marketing/referal tracking as mentioned by samsteez.

If you what to skip that just got straight to https://www.revolut.com/en-NZ/promo/aff-topup-topup40/

If you what to skip that just got straight to https://www.revolut.com/en-NZ/promo/aff-topup-topup40/

          That's better - thanks Andrew.

So many marketing people are so technically clueless.

You use either a page on your domain website (https://www.revolut.com/something) or a subdomain thereof (https://something.revolut.com/) - nothing else, ever :-)

@Alan6984: Are we sure this is not a cheeky person who has made a RevoultNZ id on cheapies and getting all the referrals via that link.

            The link takes you to:

            Just curious!

            • @ominous-circle:

Are we sure this is not a cheeky person who has made a RevoultNZ id on cheapies and getting all the referrals via that link.

              Looks very possible.

Some others here have been indicating that they think Revolut would 'legitimately' use a non-Revolut domain for marketing, so either Revolut are idiots (my original point), or it just further proves the point that businesses that make that mistake then train their customers to trust links they should not.

Of course, you can also say that such customers clicking links like that are lacking any real understanding of how things work, and it isn't their fault.

            • @ominous-circle: I've checked their cheapies account and can confirm that they are an employee at Revolut. Not some random cheeky person camouflaging their personal referral links as an official Revolut promotion campaign.

  • Enter my mobile and I get This offer is not available
Unfortunately you're not eligible for this promotion

Don't have existing account, have only been on waitlist but never been able to sign up as unable to receive verification SMS at the first step…

    • Am getting the same and never signed up but was on the wait list. A bit dumb of them blocking potential customers.

    • Same here. Eligible but not receiving any of the texts to confirm my number when signing up.

Can I ask what actually is this please

    • +1

It's a debit card for cheaper international travel/money exchange https://www.revolut.com/. Similar to Wise https://wise.com/

    • You also get one time use virtual debit card which are very useful for signing up for trials or new accounts.

      • Annoying thing about that is that you it doesnt work on many things since you can set it for reoccuring payments.

So you cant use it for doordash as an example.

  • Hmmm give up all that personal information for $40… Tempting

  • +1

Couldn't get the text message… Tried multiple times to sign up on my computer and mobile phone with different browsers, each time it said 'success' but the text message has never come through… Never had an account with them and never on the waitlist, either.

    • +1

Fu*k, me too, I had sent email with them one month!!

    • It doesn't work properly if you're on One NZ

      • That explains me not getting it then.

        • Kogan is better 😉

      • I'm on Skinny (Spark) and still haven't got the text message…

      • Got mine on 2degrees.

    • I couldn't get the txt from the website but did get it when I used the app.
