  • There’s the price hike before GTA6, maybe even one more before September. I’m willing to bet consoles will be hard to find and high demand come GTA6 launch so if you’ve been thinking about it - now is the time to buy,

    • Isnt there a ps5 plus or something coming out? Im sure theyll make gta just that little bit better on that.

Oh I see it's already out

    • Are you sure it's related to GTA? There is no official release date yet.

Might be rest of the world subsidizing the American tariffs?

I think they're aligning our prices with the US prices. We've actually been getting them pretty cheap for a while now.

        • Yup! The US prices converted to NZ + GST equal the new prices approximately.

      • 100% this. Especially as outside the US they basically have no competition from Xbox either.

      • Every leak and rumour (that I've seen anyway) in the last year points to digital release on PS5/XBX in September, physical release December. Then PC in 2026. CEO of Take Two said they plan on releasing the next trailer and marketing extremely close to the launch of the game(rockstarintel.com), and digital prevents leaks.

Nice. Imagine what will happen in the next generation? Nearly 2000 for a console?

I remember the PS2 was about $1999 when it was first released around 2002 lol

      • +2

Nah it was 999, i remember as my flatmate waited a few months n got it at 799.

        • damn I'm getting old and losing my memory

      • +1

PS2 was $1000, PS3 was $1200, but they both halved in price a year later. That would never happen today, now it's more like -$100 after 3 years.

This is the main reason I took the Noel leeming deal on a switch 2. I can't see me getting one for $630 with mario kart again any time soon and if anything the price will go up.

I found it fascinating that a 5 year old product is now talking about price increase rather than a decommission…

    • +2

It did have a price increase then it came back down again, now it's going back up again which is even more ridiculous for a 5 year old console.

    • Gotta make up increased costs and the lost profits due to the lower sales in America as things get priced out for their consumers from tarrifs

    Got one! Thanks, OP.

It was either this or the noel lemming $300 off deal. Went with this because all the hassle getting a new card etc. Can't be bothered

    • Or, this price matched then the Noel leeming deal.

      • I got the two contoller disc edition deal. Will noel price match that?

        • They don’t have the bonus controller bundles, so I think not.

Lowest prices I saw were $675 / $585 (Disc / Digital) last December at The Warehouse.

The prices are going up on consoles? I thought they came down as the hardware aged. Why is the price going up?

    • Vice President, Global Marketing, Sony Interactive Entertainment

With a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates, SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price (RRP) of the PlayStation 5 console in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand.

The updated PS5 RRPs are effective starting April 14, as follows*:

Standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – NZD $949.95
      PS5 Digital Edition – NZD $859.95
      PS5 Pro RRPs remain unchanged

      • OK. Well then. I wonder why it has only increased in those regions? Surely they are speaking globally about those challenges.

    • because the NZ dollar went down faster.

      • Over what period?

        • +1

profitability drops for a quarter or two, they look for ways to pump it back up.

          • @huffboy: Interesting how they only stick it on certain regions. Feels like we're always the first to get a price rise. Sigh.

  • Both OOS in Warehouse rip haha

  • OOS at Warehouse. Shame as would have bought it. Will put the cash towards a holiday instead!

  • I found this in China:

NEW PS5 SLIM 1TB DISC EDITION Console 825GB WITH 4 Controllers PLUS 23 Games

    (https: //dealrtx.com/product/new-ps5-slim-1tb-disc-edition-console-825gb-with-4-controllers-plus-23-games/)

Dono, if that's a reliable shop or not (found their store and the advert on AliExpress platform), but I reckon in case it is, 370$ USD's gotta be the best price for PS5 nowadays… 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • i bet they are putting the price up due to usa tarrifs instead of putting the price directly on usa consoles, they are not getting an increase and the outside regions will help subsides the expense, PSN is going up too.

    • They just hiked their prices last year any idea what its going up to now? My sub has lapsed, very unlikely to get a new one unless they have a good deal on.

    • no. its because our currency sucks. 15-20% devaluation over the past few years.
