  • Last year this tv was ~1500 as well. A good price for low end 60 inch model.

HD models are on the way out, and at that size they are too pixelated. That prices sounds good, but it is now old tech. 4k is really the best thing to buy these days if you are paying over 1k.

    • Why get 4k when 1) no channels in NZ or OZ broadcast in that and 2) programmes need to be filmed in 4k? HD is very relevant for the next 5 years +.

    • 4K is just like 3D, completely useless to 90% of people, especially in a TV.
Only real benefit of 4k is at screens larger than 70" or as a monitor where you sit close to the screen. According to this chart you have to be 5 feet away from a 75" 4K TV to experience the benefit. According to this survey the average UK-er sits 2.63 metres from the TV (8.63 ft) which is the perfect size to enjoy 1080p on a 65" TV. At the same distance 4K and FULL HD look no different on a 65" TV.

Pixelated would refer to a lower resolution source. For example the same 65" TV at the same distance would be extremely pixelated for 480p content, somewhat noticeable for 720p content but unnoticable for 1080p or higher content.

The other side of the argument is 1080p is no longer a selling factor, 4K has given the companies selling TVs a reason to make consumers "buy all over again" but at the same time are improving other qualities such as contrast, "smartness" ,etc.

What you should really be holding out for is OLED if you are really wanting new tech that will actually make a difference and give you a reason to buy a new TV.

In short if you want a new TV that is less than around 70-75 inches, it is best to buy the cheaper mid-range Full HD than the entry-level 4K one that costs more.

      • I don't disagree with much of that. Although people were saying the same thing about HD before it became mainstream.

There is more and more 4k content coming out, netflix has some, a lot of youtube, and 4k tvs will upscale 1080p and it does look better IMO on a 4k screen, than on a 1080 screen. Yes OLED is the way forward, and 4k will be the new resolution standard for a while, until they increase the resolution again. The thing though is many people don't use these screens for just watching TV, they are displays for showing photos, computer screen, so can be on almost all the time, and people can get close to the screen. Showing good quality photos on a 4k screen are amazing. 3D is a gimmick, and always has been. That said, this is still a good deal for a TV, but it is old tech.

If HD is pixelated you are too close to the TV…
