These are bluetooth with Apt-X and AAC support. However they start in SBC mode. To start them in high quality mode, hold the VOL+ button when powering on - you should see 3 red light flashes after the 2 blue flashes. This will significantly improve sound quality with most modern devices. Note that the range is shorter in this mode, and a low quality extended range mode is available by using VOL- (1 red flash).

Yeah I just saw these also.

Not sure that I need them, but the price is pretty darn good.

I'm using those base level wired Schnennenhissersz HD 202 set at the moment, and the sound is actually pretty good.
They're wired, and have no cancelling ability though…

These are pretty darn good, I've got sennhiser HD558's but been using these as the NC and Closed.
Not as good but still great sound wise feels quite close in fact.
My brother had hd 201's or something similar, he said it's a massive stepup from them.

    • I have the Sennheiser 201 and Sol Republic Tracks HD, I must admit Sennheiser is really good, really tempted to get these Sony just because of the wireless capability!

    • PS: If anyone was looking at this for console purposes, they don't work with ps4 since ps4 doesn't support anything other than the official natively, you can use the cable and attach it to the controller.

I love these headphones - great for wearing in an open-plan office

I bought these shortly after you posted the deal, and i've been demoing them all afternoon. They are excellent as described. Good head fi reviews, good amazon reviews.

Sounds quality is not as good as my Sennheiser HD598 level (of course) but still good, definitely well above passable. Noise cancelling is neat and effective, and blocks air conditioning sounds and loud switch fans. Perhaps I can wander into one of the server rooms with them on if I get time, as that would be an excellent test.

It doesn't block voices entirely but muffles them. Overall, very impressed. Thanks OP.

BTW I have added an important need to know element of these to the OP if you're using bluetooth.

    • Thanks for that. Will definitely be getting one over the weekend :)

    • Cheers bro, will make the change when they arrive!

  • Thanks bud! Gonna get one of these using my vouchers :)

    • What vouchers if you don't mind me asking? :o

Oh sorry, what I meant was credit vouchers from noel leeming. Nothing special!

Took them into the server room. Probably the closest you can get to an aircraft cabin noise simulation without getting on a plane. Racks of whirring fans on switches, appliances, SANs and servers etc - very loud, you have to talk loudly to hear eachother. These cut through it nicely and turn them into background noise. It's not completely eliminated but it reduces it to medium-low background noise instead of not being able to hear yourself think. I made a phone call in front of a switch stack, and the other person could hear me clearly, and I could hear them perfectly fine. When i switched to using the phones earpiece i could barely hear them at all.

Tip: Use the AI Noise Cancelling function (read about it in the online manual). To make it auto choose a noise cancelling mode, press and hold NC. itll beep, llsten to the environment, and adjust the cancelling mode between A, B and C.

Also i edited in the two bundle deals, in case there are any headphone collectors here.

    • Cheers for that! Just wondering, what's the difference between the two bundle?

Edit: just found out one is wired and one is bluetooth. nvm haha

  • Hmm not sure if I should get them……I already got a pair of open back headphones (ATH-AD700X) as well as some Xiaomi earbuds…..

    • These serve a particular purpose, one that is quite different from your other two. If you're buying these you're getting them for the noise cancelling, the bluetooth, or both. They won't touch the AD700X in clarity by any stretch, but they are excellent value at this price point for the aforementioned features while still holding their own in sound quality.

Thanks ive been holding out for these!

  • Grabbed a pair from NL Tory St in Wellington, they seemed to have a few more in stock. Interestingly enough they didn't have a markdown ticket on them so took a while to find.

got these today from tory street, asmcar is right, no signs about the price at all but all the other sonys are 40% off so everyone is looking at them, also in a cabinet so hard to find.
Saw a dude about to get a pair of $129 wired sonys so showed him these, as i left he looked like he was googling them on his phone.

    • Glad I helped someone else out! Almost like an insider sale when they don't label it! How many boxes were left when you were there?

      • only looked like 2 or 3, but the store lady said they had 5, so if the computer was correct there would be 4 left after mine

        • A friend is grabbing some but I think he's ordering online. If Tory St run out the Sony Store on Willis St price match I believe.

        • @asmcar: a store at Hornby mall had it advertised. A huge sign to show the deals for the weekend. Quite well advertised there but don't see others doing that

  • Right those with these, how do they sound?

I have the sennheiser HD 202 wired headphones and will only upgrade if these sound better. The Bluetooth and noise cancelling are nice but they must primarily sound better.

    Thanks

I just got one either way.. From the sounds of the reviews from a few people here, seems promising at least.

Just went in store and picked up a pair, they didnt even have them on display, I had to ask for them and they were behind the counter. A guy showed me an open box version to try out and said the price was cheaper than staff price so he said they might be making a loss on these. He wanted to get some himself for the price but he isnt allowed, I said he should just get some family or friends to buy online.

    • NL staff can't buy stuff?? That's pretty sad.

      • I think it's that they can't buy stuff cheaper than staff pricing. I'd have offered to buy it for him in exchange for the cash.

      • Well, they can always buy it online so that's not an issue.

        • Yeah, I'm sure if he really wanted them he would find a way.
