Canon EOS 700D 18MP Digital SLR Camera - $679.16 @ JB Hi-Fi

70

Great camera to start your photography hobby / course. Comes with 18-55mm IS STM lens.

Not the cheapest so far but it's very close: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=3000914

Also check out the 50mm F1.8 STM lens from Noel Leeming @ $159: https://www.cheapies.nz/node/5347

Note this is not the current model; the current ones are: 750D + 18-55 lens (around $870) or 760D ($929).

The Canon 100D is similar to this but smaller. Same price! http://shop.jbhifi.co.nz/digital-cameras/digital-camera-slr/…

The Canon 70D is also on sale, but I'd wait because the 80D is coming out shortly, thus 70D may be even cheaper soon: http://shop.jbhifi.co.nz/digital-cameras/digital-camera-slr/…

    • 100D is not bad too! A bit smaller and easier to carry.

I've got a 100D and it's a great walk-around camera, but Canon has recently quietly discontinued it (stores in various countries have been told they can not buy any further stock).

Normally that would mean that the next model is about to come out, but people have been expecting an updated version for around a year with no results - some say that Canon are instead going to concentrate on a better version of the EOS-M instead.

If I knew it wasn't getting replaced I would seriously consider buying a spare one from NL, but will probably wait until the end of February and see if Canon announce anything at CP+. Either way the NL price is a really good deal: if they announce a successor it will probably have an initial price of around $1000.

Got this when we were in Japan last year, the wife loves it. Cost was around $600-$650 after tax refund, for the twin lens kit, so we couldn't really say no at that price. Very convenient and versatile to use, and light weight.
