Vodafone Smart Ultra with $29 Carryover SIM - $219 @ Dick Smith

50

This is what I use daily at the moment. $219 is probably the cheapest price so far!

Although it's from Vodafone, it's not actually locked to the Vodafone network, it works on 2degrees as well (needs APN update). But it won't work on Spark / Skinny

That's a good price, however does anyone know if there is any way of getting warranty claim if Dick Smith doesn't survive?

    • Good question. I guess it's a gamble for now as we're not sure about DSE's future.

  • Most warranties are usually with the manufacturer, not the reseller. So check with them first to confirm T&C's. In some situations, your credit card coy may provide some additional protection?

Check also on where the manufacturer's nearest agent is. If returning for repair/replacement to the reseller, they generally handle freight charges in-house. If returning to manufacturers yourself, you'll probably have to pay freight costs to their nearest agent. If they don't have one in your locality, it may cost you more than the item is worth.

What probably won't be worth anything are the extended warranty period deals offered by a lot of resellers. If DSE goes under, these would be worthless. Same goes for layby payments etc. If you can't buy it outright, probably best not to.

    • Also a gamble with warranty claims if you purchase DSE-branded products :)

As for Vodafone branded phones, like the Vodafone Smart Ultra for example, I presumed warranty claims are back to …. Vodafone? :D

      • I guess it depends if they are imported or supported by a NZ manufacturer. But why bother taking the risk, won't warehouse stationary better this price anyway?

        • Can confirm that Warehouse Stationery would beat this price - got it for $208.05
