River of Fundament is New York-based artist Matthew Barney's six-hour epic of a cinematic adaptation of Norman Mailer's novel Ancient Evenings. In collaboration with composer Jonathan Bepler, Barney reimagines Mailer's hypersexualised story of Egyptian gods and the sevenstages of reincarnation as a sevenact opera withina backdrop of the rise and fall of the American car industry.
