i have one of these i got for ~$25US in that big aliexpress sale a while back… and its amazing.
Night mode is fantastic, the App is great (if you ignore the chinese splash screen and the odd option still in chinese they forgot to update to english) and it can either record everything on a rolling basis (so you can skip back in time whenever you like as far back as the size of your microsd allows) or do motion capture.

The only thing to be aware of is that night vision doesnt work through glass - so if you point it outside through the window for example - it just picks up the glare IR lights or whatever and i found the audio to be pretty poor - seems to always be a bit of a background hum when you turn the mic on in the app.

Other good thing is it works fine through firewalls etc - and it will automatically allow you to connect to the camera from the app without having to sort out any port forwarding etc.

You do need to use the android app though - I dont believe you can connect via desktop or URL (that I am aware of).

Would absolutely buy again though. Better than the webcam attached to a raspberry pi that i had rigged up before i got it :)

    • Completely agree, really happy with mine. Not a bad price on this although it can probably go a few dollars cheaper, definitely grab it though if you are in the market for one now.

Someone told me you can use 'iSpy' also to watch it via desktop but I haven't tried it out yet or looked into it any further myself as the app does the job and they are constantly updating it also.

      • Yes you can use iSpy - I'm using it now. Get the L firmware + RTSP mod from my other post, and flash it to your device. Firmware newer than L geo-locks the device to China.

    • Agree with the rest, but this part threw me off…

      Night mode is fantastic

Mine is absolutely horrendous, I can see nothing at night at all, it's pitch black without external light, even though the IR is on. Must have got a couple of duds, they were from Everbuying too.

    • AFAIK the newer Xiaomi Home app have an option to disable the IR LEDs, but I couldn't get the app to work. I'm on the L firmware from here as newer ones geo-block the device to China - Xiaomi is now selling an 'international' version for more $$$.

Night mode is great, also you can remove the IR LEDs by taping the black surround with aluminium foil.

Also you can get it to work on desktop - The L firmware with the RTSP mod includes support for desktop software like iSpy.

  • Know any similar models for your desktop PC (Windows)? And similar pricing too :)
