I've never looked up the earn rate for fly buys at Z, so decided to check it out to see if it would impact my fuel purchasing decisions. Correct me where my math has gone wrong.
The standard earn rate is 1 Flybuys point for every 20 litres.
I use airpoints though, which earn at a rate of 6 fly buys to $1 Airpoints Dollar. This is similiar to the rate at which you can convert fly buys to gift cards etc when you redeem rewards, so i tend to use it to determine fly buys 'real value'.
So that's $1 every 120 Litres. At $1.80 a litre of fuel thats $216 worth, so less than half a percent return rate (0.0046%). A deal like this brings it up to 0.0092% return rate. That's equivalent to an extra 1.66 cent discount off fuel. And it would be worse return as the fuel price goes up from the random $1.80 figure picked out.
So for me, not worth considering. Useful deal for those that do capitalize on this however.
