Got one for my wife, she likes it. The Snapdragon (pro) version is the better one to get though. I've got the Mi5, it's a really great device, and not too big either.
Did you get stung with GST on the Mi5? Or did those Chinese sites declare a low customs value?
They were sent as review phones, so declared as nothing iirc. But you can request they put a lower value on the documents, and they are probably happy to do it. Always run the risk of miscommunication however.
Remember that If you are ordering a phone outside of New Zealand it may not support all the correct bands for NZ mobile networks.

Had no problem with mine, before I gave it to the wife. Used a 2Degrees sim, and had good coverage on their network and when roaming on Vodafone.

I also need a new phone, but it has to be around the $30-40 range and with at least a 4" screen. I'll be using it solely as a display for the Logitech ARX hardware monitor app and AIDA64.
I recently replaced my old G15 keyboard with a mechanical one and I really missed the LCD hardware monitor, and I want a permanent display instead of having the app on my iPad. The prices on Trademe are too high and AliExpress doesn't seem to have any good deals in this price range, probably because of carrier subsidies.
I can get The Warehouse to price beat NL on the Skinny V812 down to ~$31, and I'm just wondering if anyone else has any other deals?
Local or international? Just keep in mind that it'll likely require GST and fees when getting here.
