I got my one yesterday. Great card. No coil whine. Very overclockable.

  • *Bang my head at a brick wall for spending $793 at Mightyape for the exact same card 3 days ago…. (I price matched PlayTech and used the $5 off coupon)

    • Damn! I didn't expect the price to fall so sharply so soon after it's release.

      • Yeah, Amazon is still short of stock as of now. $747 is close to US MSRP + 15% GST.

        • I thought about importing from Amazon. But Gigabyte doesn't have an international warranty unlike EVGA.

        • @techhit: Correct, only the EVGA cards are worth getting from overseas. However Amazon quotes ~$800 for these cards so you might as well get a random 1070 from a local retailer, this saves you the hassle of RMA-ing yourself as (AFAIK) EVGA RMAs their cards to Taiwan.

      • A friend from the States bought an Asus gtx 1070 Turbo for US$360 from Jet. Newegg from time to tame has 1070s for US$380. Nvidia's attempt to put AMD out of graphics card business?

        • More like poor pricing strategy by the retailers than Nvidia cutting prices. Amazon barely have any stock at MSRP and the 3rd party retailers are price gouging everyone. Newegg is pricing the top-of-the-line Asus 1070 Strix at US$600+shipping, which is crazy.

    • Anyone else who wants this could probably Price Match at Mighty Ape and get $5 with the coupon.

      • +1

It may or may not work, I'm not sure if MightyApe will do price match with a coupon. If you're interested you'll need to submit the price match request ASAP as those 5 cards will go quickly, and the coupon will cease to work.

        • Probably not worth the trouble for $5, they might still do it but in my experience Mighty Ape take ~24h to process a Price Match request. Also it says 5+ not 5 so there could be lots, if there are less then 10 available than this deal should be removed.

        • Yeah, but I bet this post will hardly get votes.

        • @techhit: The word will spread to Geekzone and Gameplanet, so those 5-10 cards will probably be snapped up very soon.

        • @techhit: Not interested in it myself but this is already on the front page so it should get some. If it sells out quickly it won't get many votes because users can't get the deal if it's out of stock. Also you have to remember that online now is; 9 users and 50 guests so only ⅕ of users can vote.

        • @Avantime:

Yeah, but apparently, more people seem to be interested in getting tabloid rubbish (NZ Herald) delivered to their letterbox when people have this thing called the internet. I get free trial flyers all the time, and throw them away. I'm not sure why that post deserves 10 votes, whereas a graphics card that has been insanely popular for weeks, is now available at a fair price point.

You only need to skim through the 5000+ comments to see evidence of the hype (and praise) for these cards.

        • @techhit: Some people don't need or want a card like this at all. It's definitely a good price but it needs to be a popular product as well. That NZ Herald post got popular because it's FREE. You just enter you address and receive it. If you don't want use it to burn in a fire place. If you get free trial flyers all the time then post them here! I have no doubt that this is a good product at a good price but I've wanted anything like it. And I just gave you a vote so it'll be on the front page for everyone to see.

        • @ClipIt:

I know you don't play computer games, but you underestimate how insanely popular these cards are around the world. At the product announcement in May, Nvidia stated that a card that was 2x faster than their previously most expensive graphics card ($1600 Titan X); uses less power; and would be half the price. The prices at launch have never been sold for what they have been promised, and despite manufacturers/retailers inflating the price due to insane demand, people have bought them anyway. And pre-orders were selling out in a matter of minutes - hence why nowinstock.net was monitoring stock levels.

To say that it's not a popular product is incorrect, but I get that it does appeal to a smaller audience rather than the general population.

        • this reminds me when the 8800GT was released a few years ago, hyped and all (dang I feel old now)…

They probably don't price match with coupons applied. I suspect it has to be a publicly advertised price.

  • Looking at getting an upgrade is this much gruntier than an RX480?

    • A LOT.

      • You can't even begin to compare a 1070 vs a RX480. The 1060 is the "equivalent" card.

        • I think for open CL the performance is similar, possibly faster on the 480. So if you are running an upscaling high end madvr htpc then from memory the 480 would have the edge.

EDIT: Actually someone has done some benchmarks. The 480 is slower than the 1070, but possibly has better performance:price depending on the current prices. http://www.file-upload.net/download-11746774/MadVRComparison…

Down to 4 in stock now, better hurry if you want one as I think it will sell out in a few hours.

    • 3 Now

  • 5+ Instock At Computer Lounge

    Must have found more stock

    • That's great news.

  • Isn't this the same product you posted for cheaper at TechWorld recently. Yes, it's the same product cheaper at Tech World

    • Yes it is. And I state that in the body of this post, but one user had concerns about customs charges, warranty and claims of drop-shopping.

      • I Emailed Scott and the delivery time frame is in "weeks" so I decided to go for MightyApe, which also has a physical location in Albany for warranty purposes. Computer Lounge has a store in Mt Wellington and I've been there numerous times.
