  • Nice one, now to find those single blade travel razors we got.. Hmm…

    • You can always buy a pack of disposable razors from the 2 dollar shop, and give one away.

  • Note the deal isn't on the North Island mailer, only the South Island one.

    • Strange, the image suggests it's nationwide.

      • someone could ask on the FB page to confirm etc

        • Done, let's see what they say.

      • It's listed on the online mailer also, so you'd think nation wide.

        • Do you have a link? I cldnt see it but would like to take in proof as my local is terrible with offers

        • It appears the mailer changes when you change your store. Last page of the lower south island ones. Maybe they thought containing the add to regions would be sufficient. "Any" New World store seems miss leading.

        • @Michelle: So are you suggesting that it is only available at selected stores?

        • +1

@Jay: It's not stated on the mailer, there's no small print or anything that suggests it may be selected stores only. Awaiting reply from Shaws facebook question.

        • @Michelle: Cool, thanks. Just seems like an offer that will absolutely get hammered, if you can swap a 30c disposable for a $13 Mach 3 single. So be getting in early

        • @Jay:

Although keep in mind that this would be a promotion by the supplier, and the manufacturing cost of these things would likely be a few cents for materials, so giving them away (And then customers purchasing consumables later) is pretty easy money for them.

        • @Shaw: Perhaps but there is also a displacement cost all along the supply line. So each one swapped is one full price sale lost. Not like there is a crowded market for shaver gear. Gillette pretty much have the supermarket place monopolised (hence the ridiculously high prices), except for cheap disposables or online suppliers.

        • +1

@Michelle: I wonder how Gillette will do the promotion. With the previous Schick promotion they had a travelling roadshow going on where they visit each store for half a day, whereas this one is available at "all" stores for 4 days.

        • @Shaw: often when I message them on facebook I get a response. Might be worth messaging them instead?

  • Shall have to swap my Schick razor for this one ;)

    • It might be worth keeping the old Schick razor, in case there are more cartridge deals in the future. You can buy 6pk disposables for $2 at a 2 dollar shop, and it works out at about 30c each.

You can get 2 for each visit, so visit the supermarket 3 times during the period (or visit 3 different supermarkets) and you'll get 6 Gillette razors for $2.

  • I went to one of this event at Pak n Sav nearly 20 years ago..from then on it was a downhill slope, in search for the perfect shave, i started buying all these fancy catridges, the Mach 3 and the suddenly the Fusion, the Proglide, etc and with each new evolution, the catridges does not fit the new handles (etc more money down the drain). Had a brief dabble with King of Shaves variety, and also Schick.

Now older and wiser, a safety razor is my pick.

    • I got one of these when I was travelling, still going strong.

  • Wellington store refused

    • Just simply refused? Did they say they hadn't heard anything about it?

      • Yes, they said that they have no clue about this. Me upon insisting to check their systems they refused to check it and that they want to see the mailer in print form

        • Alright, will wait and see what experience others have around the country.

        • @Shaw: I wonder if North Island and South Island are total different businesses? I know with flybuys some of the deals are 'South Island only' Would have been nice for it to be clarified on the add, or through communication with them.

        • @Michelle:

I'd say they are run separate, even their sale today has different deals, but still, you are right, would've been nice for them to clarify.

        • @Michelle: That's how supermarkets work, because of their distribution networks. Countdown does this as well, while PaknSave (which doesn't do mailers) is all over the place with different promotions & specials for each store.

  • Rejected at New World Marton today.

  • At the risk of being told off by our resident godwit for being too helpful, this deal is active.

Stores have been issued with a shop kit by the promoters which includes signage, a yellow Sharps disposal bucket, and a data collection sheet noting the brand of razor dropped off, and whether the customer currently uses Gillette products.

Specific store staff have been trained in how to operate the deal. In most stores, the exchange is being managed via their Service Desk.

Any type of razor accepted for exchange including (10 for $2) bargain disposables. Don't need a copy of the offer itself as stores already have their own in-store signage. Each customer entitled to two razors (for 2), the male and female versions.

So offer is good to go.

    • Think that your in the South Island, any confirmation it's valid in the North?

      • Is there another island? Cool!

The bar-code of the issued product is stickered to prevent later stock returns for cash payments.

  • The new world I went to had the signage, but staff wasn't too clued up. Insisting 1 shaver per person only and had to be Gillette branded as well as female razor for female, male for male. Eventually they relented and gave me my 2 razers say they will do it just this once. In saying this though, due to them not clued up it seems they have been accepting swaps for male mach 3 turbos instead of the normal mach 3 which i got one :D

    • So there was signage, but they never read it? Great work that…

    • It's all written on their signage. They just have to read what's in front of them. Have seen a copy of the internal instruction sheet issued to the store by the promoter. It's quite explicit and simple.

Noting also that the female shaver only has one blade which the male shaver has two. Nice thing is that for once, the blades are interchangeable between both designs (as well as with the original Mach 3 handle)

      • Stock is rapidly running out on this offer. Many supermarkets have already closed down their giveaways for lack of stock. Was quite a popular offer apparently.
