Shaw, this is what I was talking about over on OzBargain. Delta (and every other airline) never sell AUS-USA direct flights for these prices. They sell them at these prices to NZ customers because most people would choose to fly direct with Air NZ if the price was the same or similar.
Likewise, Air NZ sell their AUS-NZ-USA flights to Australian customers much cheaper than their direct NZ-USA flights.
