1KG Braeburn Apples $0.75 @ Countdown (Available Nationwide)

300

Something to balance out the Domino's discount codes ;)

Appears to be a cancelled export order or something, packaged in 'Oaklands' branding with NZ origin stickers but address on the back is for Lidl Supermarkets UK.

They come pre-packaged in 1kg plastic bags.

Look like export quality, no blemishes or brusied fruit in the bags from what I could see. Boxes said class 1 on them which I presume is a good thing??

Countdown Newtown has a huge pile of them to the left of the entrance as you walk in. Used the Countdown website and tried stores in Auckland, Wellington Region, Christchurch and Dunedin and they all let me add them which I presume means there is nationwide stock.

Hamster has confirmed they are available in Blenheim so presume it's all stores!

  • Yeah I got a couple of these yesterday at countdown in Blenheim, they were good quality

    • Cheers for the stock confirmation. Usually I find the cheap $1 apples to be bad quality but these look good!

      • Eating one now, really good.

        • Yeah I just had one too, really nice!

  • Can confirm they are here in Levin too. Must have been a huge order to cancel, Lidl isn't a small chain either

  • Confirmed 30+ stock at Countdown Three Kings (Central Auckland), this must be a huge cancelled export order.

  • Same deal in Manukau as well and half crate stock. Seems like nationwide!

I work at cd and they had something like 140 tones to sell

    • Well I did my bit with 3kgs….

  • Is it just me or the apple are really small?

    • They're smaller than usual size - I prefer that though. I suspect they're intentionally sized this way for the market, they seem pretty consistently sized.

      • The sticker on the bag states the size, can't recall it, but they were selected specifically for this batch.

      • "For Export" = smaller portions, even for crappy European discounters like Lidl.

  • Think the 'Apple' tag is meant for the brand, not real apples.

      How's that?

    • Yeah realised that when I tagged it but thought it was amusing none the less.

      Relax, mate.

  • How many of these do I have to eat to balance 1 Domino's pizza?

    • I've heard eating 10kgs in one sitting cancels out the calories…. try it and report back?
