Super Mario Run is a side-scrolling auto-running video game developed and published by Nintendo for iOS and Android devices. It was released on iOS on December 15, 2016, and will be released for Android in 2017. The game represents one of the few instances where a Mario game has been developed for non-Nintendo hardware, and was part of Nintendo's efforts to enter the mobile gaming market with its franchises. It received generally positive reviews by critics, with its comparatively high price in the mobile market and required connectivity to the internet being two common points of criticism. Despite that, it was the fastest downloaded game in iOS history.
