The weekly supermarket specials are considered "deals" now? This isn't even that good of a deal New World has ETA chips 2 for $5.

  • 2 years ago they were 200g , then 150g, now 140g sob

Unfortunately it's either pay more or reduce product quantity. Consumers are more sensitive to price changes than product quantity changes… that's why Cadbury's bar of choc is still ~$3 because have been reducing their weight from 250 down to 200g, although cleverly they were able to keep the same basic dimensions of the bar by increasing the space between each block of choc. Whittikers is still 250g but almost $5 now. Same with chips!

      • Same with coke or soda cans

        • Same with Craig's jam and everything else I eat. I stare at the label and think it looks different somehow…

          • @mikeperro1: i think when you get older your hands don't stop growing (same with ears). So it makes sense the products feel smaller over time.

      • A lot of companies are doing this, as a way of putting up the price per weight, without raising the sticker price. I wonder how this affects inflation figures, as inflation is really low, but if they are basing it on food that has been downsized, then the inflation figures aren't going to be correct.
