  • I got this last time it was offered. Free travel insurance for 40 days automatically when you use the card to pay for airfare/hotel/etc.

  • Westpac has a exactly same card, but their recently $0 Annual Fee for 2 Years promotion does not include this Air-point Platinum MasterCard, only for 1 year.
"Pay $0 Annual Fee for 1 year, Go Platinum for even more impressive hotpoints or Airpoints earning power!"

  • Does anyone know What's the minimum income before tax to apply for the platinum card?

    • +1

I think it's pretty moderate, about 50K. It's not the only factor, they appear to take savings and other financial details into consideration if the signup process is any indication.

      • Really? I think the platinum card has a minimum credit line of 10k. No chance they are going to give 10k on 50k of income.

        • +2

People can definitely get them when they are earning less than 60k.

        • Credit card companies only make money when people can't afford to pay them off every month. I'd imagine that most of their profit comes from people who earn below-average incomes, so they'd always be calculating how low an income they can accept before the probability of total loss is unacceptably high.

  • Is ANZ doing anything to match this deal? COuldnt be bothered to open accounts in Kiwibank.

  • ASB also have a deal where you can get a platinum card for the same fee as a standard cheapest card (like $10 per 6 months or something) which is not free - but its for Life ie you never have to pay the platinum fees again - so since i had a card anyway went for that. They do advertise it time to time, but you could also try asking them. They proactively contacted me via the fastnet email.
