it works for random destinations heading north, ie Dunedin to Nelson/Picton, Queenstown to Christchurch, Christchurch to Nelson, Wellington to Auckland - I think that's all of the ones I found working.
How much was insurance?
Hey - I want to add that with these $2 rentals from Budget that come with 900 free km, you also get a free tank of fuel - you can return it empty.
I know it's nowhere to be found but I've confirmed this with Budget a couple of times via email (do the same just to be sure!)
Other rental companies don't include fuel unless stated.
With the $2 deal, i had to pay about $75 for excess reduction.
Also in regards to petrol, how can i confirm that?
you can email them and ask
Is it really a good idea to buy the insurance excess reduction?
Its exactly the same thing as health insurance, you might not need it but when you do, its great.
buy domestic travel insurance instead.. it's cheaper and comes with rental car excess cover.
What insurance company have you used for this?
i used 1cover.
@masterj: I use these guys for domestic car rental excess insurance - https://www.worldwideinsure.com/car-hire-excess-insurance.ph…
It seems too good to be true but the reviews are awesome and it covers everything you need
How do you know what dates have $1 options? Just spent the last 15 minutes guessing different dates! Frustrating
Pretty much any dates on most routes going north that are 48 hours or less but specifically Dunedin to Nelson/Picton, Queenstown to Christchurch, Christchurch to Nelson, Wellington to Auckland
There’s also https://www.transfercar.co.nz/ and a few others around.
Great deal. I've posted to the OzB page for anyone travelling over. Weird that it says North Island but works for South
