    • SD855 is out (typing on F1)

    • Hope it won't get taxed by Customs!

      • +1

        wont

        • hope

          • @Senior Mouse: sorry i'm a newbie, why do they charge me for it < 400

            • @upbeat: Haha I hope it doesn't! I only state that it might be ransomed by Customs since it is close to the threshold. I've had stuff kidnapped when the package was declared at $260 USD (which was ~$395NZD at the time). It will be interesting to see if they catch your phone, I sure hope it doesn't though.

              • +1

@Senior Mouse: Banggood gearbest etc almost never statement the correct amount in customs declaration forms. There is no chance of getting taxed (legality aside)

                • @Zyo: Thanks. Now I think they'd probably not ship my order as they've just cancelled my other xiaomi order with them stating there's no carrier to post the item I've ordered to my location That's Auckland Central

              • @Senior Mouse: Customs actually have a pre-set exchange rate that can differ to the open market by 1 or 2% - its worth giving it a google to see if you'll get pinged (i have many times :( )

                • @thesnek: Well I calculated that in their site yesterday, it does 0 to be paid. But IDK if it changes with exchange rate

  • This phone doesn't support 4G Band 28 so will have some signal issues in NZ if you go rural / outer area of town.

    • +3

well i live in AKL cbd, so i got it

For such a cheap phone it's perfectly fine. If you want the latest SD 855 SoC with Band 28 you can expect to also pay prices accordingly, not ~$391.

Yea all good if you live in town most of the time. I was using a cheap phone from China and every time I went to Mt Ruapehu or Raglan my phone lost signal while my mate's Samsung had perfect 4G.

        • -3

Well then get a flagship Samsung like your mate for 800$, as you can't expect that kind at this price range for this processor like I told before

          • @upbeat: Or ya know the mix 2s.

        • Maybe keep a Spark/Skinny SIM card handy, In my case I find that the Poco F1 gets better signal from those carriers, well in Auckland at least. 2Degrees/Warehouse is the worst in terms of reception.

And if you want a Poco F1, I suggest you get the red one if you can. It looks much nicer than the black/blue ones.

          • -1

@Avantime: Isn't skinny the watered down version of 2 degree under umbrella of the same firm

            • +1

@upbeat: Skinny piggy backs their network from Spark, so will have sparks coverage, Whereas 2Degrees use vodafones network

              • +1

                @wellydeal: Kinda.

2Degress have their own towers in the major centers. Outside of those they switch to the Vodafone network.

            • @upbeat: no. skinny=spark network

  • This coupon can only be used 100 times. I guess there's no more discount now.

  • My wife have that phone. It's great value for money phone. She is on Slingshot(spark Network). Have not noticed any issues so far.
Great battery life even with that huge screen.

    • When did you guys buy it

      • Mid last year, I believe. It was available for ~460 NZD then. From Aliexpress.

        • So I'm guessing you paid around 150 extra for customs 460+150

          • +4

@upbeat: Phones sent from China-based online retailers generally don't usually get picked up for GST, because the sellers under-declare the value or declare it as gift or merchandise.

I brought mine in Hong Kong the exact day it was released.
