Given a value of 1 flybuys point = $0.17 (based on 115 points getting $20 at New World) and earning rate of 1 point per 20L fuel (~ $45), you save 0.38% with flybuys. With 1 airpoint per 100L (~$225), you save 0.44%.

Another way of seeing it, with 100L fill, you could get 1 airpoint dollar or 5 flybuys points (= $0.85).

      • I redeemed mine dollar for dollar at Mitre 10. Is it different for flights?

        • I redeemed mine dollar for dollar on flights, and have also done it at Mitre 10.

      • I presume you are meaning at the Airpoints store?
Flights and Mitre ten are $1:$1

@syrys: Everyone will have a different use case, agree that the store items are inflated.
Z still use flybuys right? Just use what ever system suits your situation best.

@syrys: This isn't correct either. I just booked flights through Air NZ that are operated by Singapore Airlines and used Airpoints for the whole thing. And saying That AirNZ isn't the cheapest and that people don't fly all the time therefore $1! = $1 isn't even close to accurate.

            • @ABCDEFG: alrighty, ill take it back, my experience was different (happened couple of times). I dont actually have any terms to link, ill note it down as an isolated couple of cases. I do still stand by the fact that i "personally" dont think i would value 1 APD = 1 NZD, but thats purely due to personal experiences (and the things I value).

so tldr: disregard what i said (use it as one scenario/opinion if you wish), and depending on your use case and experience the APD may or may not equal NZD.

          • @syrys: Nah sorry I disagree. 1AP is 1 NZD
