  • How to get a price match online?

    • You have to go on the chat

      • cannot see an online chat option.

        • +1

Stay on the website (a product page / Cart ) for a little while. Online chat goes on and off based on their availability I think.

          • @Soulcore: I just tried to get them to price match and they said "We are still checking with PB Tech about the pricing.", which is odd if you got it price matched from them 23 hours ago

            • @SrsSarcasM: It's not just PB Tech. Some other stores like Extreme PC , Dragon PC and Computer Lounge are also selling it for the same price. I bought mine after matching the price of PB Tech.

  • anybody recommend a good enclosure for this?

    • +1

I like the Ugreen stuff on Ali Express. I have one of these: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32815404045.html

      • Ugreen is good. I can vouch for that (been using their Cables and Ethernet cat6 modules)

        • +1

Yes I received a Ugreen cable from china last week, was pleasantly surprised at the look and feel. Not silicone but feels soft and flexible and the connectors are a good solid fit. Obviously can't comment on durability but after the initial impression I thought I'd like to check what other products they do. Happy to see others recommending them also as I'd never heard of them until this month.

In contrast I received a couple of Raxfly USB coverter / adapters this week. AVOID. On one the Type-A plug is too tight to comfortably fit in regular USB ports. And on the other the Type-A port is too loose to hold USB cables properly and the Type-C male bit won't fit into my USB power meter - I have to connect it via a short usb extention lead instead. So 3 out of the 4 connectors on these two pieces are sub-par. Pathetic, the Type-A connector has been around decades and they still managed to screw up both of them. So that's one brand to avoid.

  • Thanks for sharing, would this M.2 SSD better? https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/computers-tablets/accesso…

    • It’s the same memory and controller so exactly the same speeds. The only difference is the interface being an m.2 which is good if you want to put one in your laptop and still retain your existing hard drive in it so you can get additional storage/use the ssd for more speed sensitive operations such as app loading and operating system(this is assuming your laptop has a m.2 slot free)

      • thanks, was just going to use externally, e.g use an enclosure, if the same then i might just for for the cheaper ones

        • One advantage in using a m.2 external enclosure is that it is smaller than a 2.5” one. Will be a little more expensive though

        • If you have an m.2 slots check if it supports nvme (pcie) as those drives will be vastly faster. They are slightly more expensive.

It's now slightly cheaper at $91.5 after price matching with Dragon PC which has it for $111.50 https://www.dragonpc.co.nz/index.php?route=product/product&p…

    • I just bought one at $95………….

    • Apparently they wont honor the deal as they dont have physical stock

      • I guess that is their excuse… Not sure if it's true, though they could check by calling the physical store.

  • +1

I bought one, thank you for sharing.

  • +1

Thanks! managed to get one price @ $91.50 collect on store. :)

    • how did you trigger the chat?
been on that page all day on different browsers and nothing.
I sent them an email and made an account (awaiting reply) even messaged them on facebook but they cant do price matching there.

      • i guess it's pure luck! maybe timing as well? i don't know can't explain mate. I just open the browser go to the site, open the product page then BOOM! chat begins then…:

        • Thanks anyway i see its gone now
"Sorry, this product is no longer available online."

      • +1

I needed to disable uBlock for the tab to appear. The tab can either be email or chat.

  • +1

Product no longer available now. Couldnt get price match because i could never see the online chat. That said the $20 off is handy. Anything else worth price matching?

  • Looks like the Samsung has sold out, this is the next best one for the moment:

Price match against CL $115 then discounted to $95. https://www.computerlounge.co.nz/shop/components/storage/sol…

They state "Unfortunately we cannot match this deal as they have parallel imported this product."

      • +1

Haha they are grasping at straws to not honor these deals, Noel Leeming at its best! No where does it say it's parallel imported and Computer Lounge are like any other retailer and pay import tax; Noel has the burden of proof if they are proposing they will not honor their Price Promise for this reason!

        • +2

I will get back on this tomorrow and ask computer lounge if they are parallel importers as Noel Leeming suggests and take a screenshot of the chat,
Alot of these computer stores get it from an NZ supplier and some even ship it directly from them so I doubt computer lounge directly import these drives as there is already a supplier here.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Thought I'd give this a go and was able to get a price match from computer lounge. Got this one for $95 :)

            • +1

@Premoz: I would expect them to honour it,this is what happens with retails stores they have no consistency, one person just says "no" so you gotta keep trying till you get someone with a brain.
i got a reply from an email i sent so i will see what he says about staff not honouring it.

          • @[Deactivated]: did you get an answer on this?

  • +2

Yeah they ducked my price match too. I got through the chat and they claimed there was an issue doing it online and to just email them… that was 2 days ago, no reply. Product sold out now. They win

    • Their delay tactic worked! I've found that the sales staff can apply the discount physically at the store although they may be somewhat reluctant to do so given the stacking; I've had the $10 mailing list signup discount applied to a product in-store when I asked for it for another product some time ago.

    • +2

Noel tried a delay tactic with me, didn't email me for 14 hours then curiously the same customer support rep I talked to in chat in the morning emailed me at 10:30pm with an offer to price match. By then I'd already bought it from elsewhere for fear of the sale ending or stock running out.

Really don't believe the same guy was working presumably from 8am to 1030pm, it was most likely a delayed-timed email with a send time of "the same day" as the request but functionally late enough that most people wouldn't get it until the following day.

      • +1

        That’s scummy behaviour

        • +2

Same here i did it a couple of times on a few items as well and they state.
"Ill need to run this by our merchandise team to confirm. Is there an email we can get you back on?"

          No reply 24 hours on
The items i wanted are conveniently sold out.

Silly of me to think they would honour it.
Will just buy it from pbtech.

  • If anyone is still looking for SSDs CL has the Gigabyte 480GB SSD for $85, the trend is looking good for SSD prices this year https://www.computerlounge.co.nz/shop/components/storage/sol…

  • Wife picked up one today. Paid $89.99. No stock anywhere, but paid for it on back order. I guess we'll pick it up in a week or so. Went into a physical store, can't do it online - bit of effort getting it sorted but not too bad.
