Theyre pretty shit quality. I bought mine online and regretted it.

Id definitely recommend taking a look before you purchase.

    • Had a look in store and agree with this comment. Doesn’t look to be much workmanship and doesn’t feel very sturdy and solid like other cast iron cookware I’ve got. Good price for a brand new starter set though.

    • I got mine a while back. They are ok quality for the price.

Cast iron pans are pretty low tech product.

For someone like me who has never cooked with cast iron can anyone explain the difference to this from a normal nonstick fry pan?

      Better for bullet deflection.

      • hmmm that is always good, especially in PUBG, thanks mate!

Although they take longer to heat up to your desired temperature, they preserve the heat better. e.g. if you put a piece of cold steak on a non-stick frying pan vs a cast iron pan, they non-stick pain would drop in temperature immediately - which would compromise the amount of nice sear you get.
For things you want a quick cooking time with a good sear, nothing beats a good cast iron pan.
Although these simon gault ones are mediocre at best I admit.
Invest in a good cast iron skillet and it will legitimately last you generations and improve in cooking quality over time if you take care of it!

    • Aside from what other guys said, you can heat it up, press some pizza dough into it, toss your toppings on and stick it in the oven for a the best possible deep-dish pizza.

Can't comment on the quality of these pans, but previously bought some Simon Gault branded glass bowls (like Pyrex). They arrived by courier smashed, so Briscoes sent another set set, which also arrived smashed. The third set arrived OK, but broke within 3 months of use. Compare this to the Pyrex bowls we have had for at least 10 years. My opinion is that the Simon Gault brand is rubbish with cheap, poor quality products deliberately priced high so it can be marked down to appear to be a bargain.

Sorry for the rant. Every time I see his face I get into a rage.

"with cheap, poor quality products deliberately priced high so it can be marked down to appear to be a bargain"

That is basically Briscoes entire business practice tbh…

  • In what way are these bad/mediocre quality? I don't know much about cast iron pans, but I can't really visualise how these would be bad.

Are you saying they're bad because they will fall apart quickly etc, or is it just a case of it being thin so not storing as much heat? In which case I assume it's still far better than a normal frying pan at the same price?

The finish is really rough and the surface sucks. They look and feel cheap af.

  • Yeah these are often really cheap on Briscoes. For induction they are pretty awful. Mine was very slightly warped. That makes quite a difference for induction as a good flat contact with the stove-top is essential for the best results. It wasn't bent enough to warrant a return, and would have been OK on gas or a standard stove. Instead scour TradeMe for a decent vintage one. Back in the day they actually polished the surface, rather than just leave it straight out of the cast with the sand grain pattern still on it.
