Got the Mastercard version of this last year with the fee waiver — I only use it for the free travel insurance.
I think you only need to have income of 40k to qualify.

    • I can vouch for their free travel insurance. Had to claim on it this year, covered medical expenses, damaged property and loss of deposits. They were good to deal with and money in account quickly afterwards.

  • not sure about airpoints profit if you cancel card. tncs on cards like these usually says "airpoints do not expire unless you cancel the card". not sure if they really enforce it though. but if they do, you will need to spend airpoints before cancelling the card. considering limited places where you can spend the airpoints i am not too sure it is worth it if you are not planning to keep this card for a long time.

    • You can always buy movie vouchers, they d be a good value?

The airpoints go into your airpoints account and have no link to the credit card. Airpoints are vaild for 4 years unless you have a credit card that makes them never expire, like the platinum ones.
Easy to use. I've done this many times and never had any expire or disappear after cancelling a cc, hopefully they haven't changed that.

  • what does this text mean?

"Offer not available on transfers from an existing Air New Zealand Airpoints Credit Card or if you have had one in the last 12 months. Offer only available once per customer. Bonus Airpoints Dollars will be added to the Airpoints account of the primary cardholder. Kiwibank is the issuer and Airpoints "

    • That if you have/had an Airpoints credit card from another bank in the last year, then you won't get this deal

I don't think that's true. I had an Airpoints card with ANZ and I was able to get this deal last year. By "Air New Zealand Airpoints Credit Card" they mean Kiwibank Airpoints Credit Cards, not all banks. So if you had a Kiwibank Airpoints Credit Card in the last 12 months then you are ineligible.

        • Hopefully this is correct. I had a Westpac Airpoints card 11 months ago. I think they clearly distinguish the cards on their website. The Kiwibank cards are all called "Air New Zealand Airpoints" whereas the Westpac cards are "Westpac Airpoints".

From the Kiwibank brochure it appears that the Kiwibank card is offered by AirNZ and issued by Kiwibank, whereas I assume the other cards are not offered by AirNZ, they just have Airpoints as a reward.

"Your Air New Zealand AirpointsTM Platinum Visa (or Airpoints credit card) is brought to you by Air New Zealand Limited (Air New Zealand) and Kiwibank Limited (Kiwibank). Kiwibank is the issuer of the Airpoints credit card. "

@sam01: The last time this deal came up my husband tried to change from an existing ANZ airpoints card to the Kiwibank airpoints card and he wasn't able to get the free airpoints because of this clause.

            • @Sadie: Was it a balance transfer from an ANZ airpoints card to Kiwibank? or did you open a new card with Kiwiwbank?

              • @zqsn: It wasn't a balance transfer, he wanted to cancel the existing ANZ card and start a new one with Kiwibank to get the free points.

                • @Sadie: I have had it confirmed by Kiwibank that the exclusion is only for cards issued by Kiwibank. Holders of ANZ and Westpac cards are eligible for the promo

      • What if I have an existing AMEX airpoints card (ie, not issued by another bank)? Also, can you just have a credit card with Kiwibank without any other bank accounts with them? Thanks

  • Can anyone confirm the airpoints profit works?

    Head's up everyone:

Short version: I applied online by using the code FW002, and no promotion ended up being applied. It'll take hours or a day to get it applied, maybe (?)

    Long version:

The online application went smoothly and I did receive my card in the mail, but I called into KiwiBank before activating my card to confirm.

They kept asking me which promotion I tried to apply, and I repeated, "you tell me".

After a few rounds of this they went to check and came back to admit no promotion had been applied.

I had to ask them to do so manually, and requested to wait on hold while they do it. About 10 minutes later the agent came back and said a different department handles it, and I'll receive an email within about a business day.

    • Another shit company with shit service. Not uncommon here in NZ. Thanks for sharing this though.
