Discount Day - 10c/Litre off Fuel (from 7am 26/9 - 12pm 27/9) @ Gull

60

Typical Gull discount day on Thursday the 26th, 7 am to midday Friday. Discount is 10 cents.

Don't forget the vouchers if buying from a staffed site.

Wonder whether it'll be less busy because every filled up last week afraid of price rises?

Prices just went up 10c yesterday….

    • As long as you get the vouchers, then its still good today.

  • Gull is switching to unmanned sites more and more places. Without vouchers these deals are not great. Bp and Caltex which are close to gull stations usually dropping prices on these discount days as well :)

    • As long as the shops make decent money with food and coffee, they'll stay. But you're right with the larger trend.

Actually I'm surprised that Gull didn't put giant Japanese-style vending machines, with them they could still sell food and drinks without the staff overhead. The abandoned Gull shops just look ghastly.

      • One of the two Gulls along Rosebank Road has now also gone pay at pump. However their store still seems to be open. I assume they had no vouchers since, you couldn't use them at that Gull so they were no use there (even if you could use them bit further down the road) but didn't try.

    • I agree - its only with the vouchers that their discount days are compelling, else I would likely not bother using Gull at all (compared to now, where I would spend at least $150pm with them, being $20 to get the vouchers, plus $130 with the vouchers).

There is no minimum spend to get the vouchers, but I can't be bothered putting in less than $20.

They really need to get their PayPumps to dish out vouchers.

While I would agree the vouchers are the main incentive and their discount days are a lot less compelling otherwise, if you don't have additional discounts from other stations, I don't see any reason to choose them over Gull on discount days even if they do price match. (And they aren't always consistent.) The other stations wouldn't be lower on that day if not for Gull, so screw them. I guess if the queues at Gull are insanely long compared to the other stations it may be it's not worth it to support Gull.

In terms of discount days vs others, I'd probably still fill up at Gull on discount days even without any vouchers. If you spend enough on shopping at the right stores to get discounts more than 6 cents, I guess the 10 cents at Gull doesn't seem attractive but otherwise it's still mildly better. I believe Z sometimes does 10 cents too, but my local Z tends to be expensive anyway and frankly it's easier to just fill up on discount days than fluff around with mobile apps and stuff.

      • I'm not so sure the "major" petrol chains are even bothering to price match Gull at the moment. In Wellsford this morning Gull was 199.7, Mobil opposite was 205.9 but Caltex 100m away was 215.9. GAS Te Hana, 4km away was 239.9! I just think the majors don't really care about being competitive anymore :(

        • Normally Caltex would price match, but they are now a naughty Z child

      • Fair comment - I'm sure Gull are having a competitive impact.

We have loads of stations near us - at least five within walking distance (not that I walk to the petrol station) and Gaspy shows thirteen stations, four of which are Gull (excluding the duplicates with the Gull Speed Lanes from those counts), within 5km, so price competition is usually fairly strong here.

        Alan.

  • I was at the Kingsland branch today and the speed lane was $2.09 which is good.
