  • You get to keep the games?

    • No, games only playable while you have an active subscription.

      • oh stink, thanks doe

  • From FAQ - "If I download a game, will it be deleted if it leaves Xbox Game Pass or my membership cancels/expires?

Games will not be deleted from your hard drive until you delete them, even if they have been removed from the Xbox Game Pass library. However, once a game leaves the Xbox Game Pass library, you will need to purchase a digital copy from the Xbox app or the Microsoft Store, insert a disc, or obtain another form of entitlement to continue playing the game."

I guess you could get the membership and download all the games and then cancel the membership?

    • I used disk space sniffers and all sorts and could not find where these were installed and took up half my hard drive. Ended up formatting and will never touch anything that uses Microsoft Store again

      • Not entirely sure why you're complicating things so much. The data will be stored at Program Files\WindowsApps or AppData\Local\Packages or rarely ProgramData\Packages depending on the type of data

The first one is owned by the TrustedInstaller, so you have to take ownership if you want to view it.

To be clear, I don't use the Microsoft Store much myself, although I had a vague idea of where stuff was stored since I'd come across it before. But this answer was based on a few quick searches rather than my own knowledge.

There are times when it's helpful to explore stuff yourself if you know what you're doing, but if you just want to find something it's often better just to look online. (In a case like this, you probably should understand the concept of file and directory ownership and permissions if you want to do it for yourself.)

I also don't get why you needed to format. If for some reason simply uninstalling the app didn't work (did you actually try?), at worse refreshing the computer should have been sufficient.

Edit: Seems if you have delivery optimisation turned on, or maybe under some other conditions, it will keep them in the 'Deleted' (or maybe albeit probably not for Games Pass stuff, 'DeletedAllUserPackages') after you uninstall them https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/c0ssoo/psa_for_th… . This is still in Program Files\Windows App though. It's possible you'll have stuff in \Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\DeliveryOptimization but I haven't seen confirmation it is may be Games Pass stuff though.

    • u sure? game pass on xbox if the memberships stops the game stops working (yes its still on ya hdd but you cant play it)

    • The XBox launcher won't allow you to start the game without a license, I think.

  • I think the $1 only gets you pc access for 1 month. It's just introductory then you have to subscribe after that. If you want it going forward you'd probably be far better off exploiting what I posted previously here:

I think the $1 upgrade to ultimate is no more but paying for ultimate for $20 will still convert all your remaining Xbox live gold and game pass months in to game pass ultimate, essentially reducing the price down to that of just Xbox live gold plus $20 to upgrade. It's a fairly decent service, I'm definitely getting my $5 a month worth out of it.
